I'm not sure what metering mode you were using but centre-weighted or spot, with the exposure set for the darkest parts of the bird might have helped bring out some detail. Still I do like the little fella

Metering didn't matter...I was in Manual mode so I had to judge the exposure......not an easy task when shootinjg those hyperactive birds...I agree it's too dark.

Try feeding them with sunflower seed! If you like birds you'll like it.
