There were huge herd of wild elk (wapiti) where I used to live. In the evenings they'd lay down in the middle of the roads because the asphault was still warm (we lived where it was snowy, so they found new ways to stay warm) and you'd have to sit in your car until they felt like moving. It was great. I miss having them around, so instead I settle for photos of them, heh. They're really awesome animals.

Here they wouldn't live long on the road.....many deer are being hit by cars....I hope I never hit an animal.

Oh believe me, there were plenty of elk on the side of the road..but on the city streets where there was less traffic (was a small town), they'd take advantage of napping whether it was rush-hour or in the middle of the night, silly things.

And I agree, I hope to never hit an animal. Squirrels and rabbits I'm not as worried about, but something along the lines of a deer wouldn't be too fun.

I almost hit two black bears.....frealed me out....it was night so...you can imagine how difficult it can be to see a black bear when it's all black outside....I saw their eyes and braked in time and then noticed it was two medium size bear....It was cool esp that I didn't hit them

Man, I can imagine bears be hard to spot in the dark. Even when we're driving through the neighbourhood roads in the evenings before the sun's completely down we need to watch for the mule deer who cross the street. Even in partial light they're hard to spot in time.
