looks pretty cool, only i would suggest you use SSS to get a more realistic looking skin, it still has that "shininess" about it

SSS?

SubSurface Scattering, so that the skin becomes slightly translucent. If youre using mental ray, then the newest versions come with a sss shader - mi_sss_fast or mi_sss_physical. Theyre not all that easy to tweak, but the final effect is very nice indeed.

you should look into using mental ray, its got a load more features than maya, and its not much harder to use

Well...looking at it just freaks me out...the hundred of shaders and utilities and all.....iI,m not ready to learn that yet.

you can use the same shaders as for maya, but with more functionality and realism. if you get a chance i would really recommend it!

Haven't you seen all the sahders for Mental Ray in the Hypershade...it's just insane.....and I've got some issues with Mental Ray using Maya's shaders....esp with reflections.

I wouldnt say there are tha tmany more than maya shaders. And the ones youll want to use most are the dgs and the dielectric materials, that covers almost all flat/shiny surfaces and glass. And theyre pretty simple to use, just take a little getting used to. But once you can use them they are a lot more powerful and versatile than the maya shaders

Well thank you...I will consider that. Right now I don't do much of 3D work....the 3D school wants to see more drawing and photo than 3D work in our portfolio so now I focus on the portfolio to get accepeted in that school...then I'll start working again.

Oh fair enough, its a pain when a course requires you to do something you dont really want isnt it

Oh...well I love photography so for me it's an excuse to do more....but drawing....it really isn't my strength.....but I talked to someone there and they said that photos are as equal as drawing and....if I have photos and no drawing it's still good.

Agreed, but it cant hurt

I know exactly what you mean though, Im currently going through the university application process, and the English system seems to be worryingly dependent on luck, making it extrememly hard to make sure of getting a place. It really shouldnt be that way!

nah...you never loose it...even if your rusty...a couple of hour of practice and it all comes back. It's been a while for myself to I didn't model anything.
