Description
...Someone somewhere is singing a song, someone somewhere is always singing a song, but it's not here and it's never now. So be quiet. Even if you wanted it it can't be heard--even if you sang it it wouldn't fill the void.So hush. Stand up. Hold your tongue and taste the blood, let it slide back down your throat to where it belongs.
You have no voice. Do you hear me?
Look at me--don't look away. Blood on the ground, blood in your mouth, your blood on my hand, my hand on your mouth--
Don't ask me what it means. It doesn't mean a thing. Shut up and listen to me--
--Don't sing.
Stand , Angel Dust
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
An illustration to go along with one of the pieces I wrote on AD, Stand . (Though I guess it can also resemble a scene from Swan Song ...) I'm hoping to do a lot more of these, because I really like drawing beat-up boys want to be able to paint the scenes in my head, even if I can never quite match with pixels or paint what I can accomplish with words.
Also, yeah, guess who finally tried out the pencil tool in Photoshop. Surprise! It looks EXACTLY like my oekaki work, woohoo!
(I'm... doomed to use this tool for the rest of my life... ;-; )
Ian, from Angel Dust .
AD - Stand Don't look at me like that.
I wasn't the one who cut the paws off the lion. I wasn't the one who put my hands on your back and shoved, though maybe there was my boot on your back, that one time, just once, perhaps. But I didn't push you off the edge--no, you know it wasn't me. You were the one with your toes curled over the edge, looking down, leaning too far, vertigo in your throat--
Don't confuse me with gravity.
What did you lose, down there in the deep? What did you let slip, that you fell so hard after, seeking to find?
A wing, a word? A name though you could not call it your own

Oh my god what happened while I wasn't looking! I had a double take at this one your page, it's beautiful
I love the tarsals and the knuckles in the hand, and the stretch of skin from the forefinger to the thumb, you captured that really well.
Most of all, I think I love the eyes most of all, the way you did the corners and the shading-- not to mention just... his expression. Beautiful, Laitma u v u <3

Man...I try to do some digital painting and then see this and realise just how little I understand of the process. I can barely manage to put two colours together and this is bordering on super lifelike realism.
But the good part is I can study this and see where I'm going wrong and what I need to work on.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
Laitma In reply to The-G [2012-10-08 03:13:12 +0000 UTC]
Ahhhhh holy shit man, that this is bordering realism is a HUGE compliment to me~ ;-;
And MAN you're still awful good for your first try, holy shit!! Keep at it and you'll be a pro in no time, I can just feel it!! D8
I'm also, ahh, kinda planning on doing a tutorial-of-sorts about how I paint portraits, so perhaps that'd come in useful? <:3
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
The-G In reply to Laitma [2012-10-11 02:14:11 +0000 UTC]
Well...the problem is, I don't have a huge drive to keep doing it. I'm sure I'll do it now and then but I don't have this huge drive to keep doing it and keep getting better at it.
So I'll probably improve...but a reaaaaaaaaaaaaallllllllllllllly slow pace.
Any tutorial would be helpful. If I can make a suggestion...I read a lot of tutorials before starting my painting and I found nearly all of them unhelpful. People seemed to do them more as 'narrations' rather than 'tutorials'. They'd just say 'pick a colour and then put it on'.
There was no real insight into where to put colour or how to put it on. How to layer it on and all that. Soooo...that stuff would be good. If it's not too annoying to do.

Laitma In reply to The-G [2012-10-11 03:11:33 +0000 UTC]
Hahahah, meanwhile, I took up painting since I have crap confidence in lines. We all have something we prefer, but it's just so cool to see you try out different stuff too, G.
And maaaaan, I definitely know that feeling, so many tutorials are more just walkthroughs. If they start saying: and now just lay down the shadows using a darker color... and then pick out highlights with a lighter color... I feel like strangling something. xDD So yeah, I definitely plan on actually talking about making the initial sketch, picking colors and figuring out saturation--definitely! C: I hope my tutorials can be a little bit more useful than... some... xD
As for tutorials that helped me, I actually found these two to be quite useful!

Well those tutorials look like they will be a lot more helpful.
I mean, I know the basics of light sources and all that...but when you're starting out on something then you really need a thorough guide to make it easier. I don't know why some people make tutorials really, when they don't actually teach anything other than how they put together pictures...without any of the actual technique.

Laitma In reply to The-G [2012-10-14 18:38:21 +0000 UTC]
Y-yeah... I'm not sure if what they meant by "tutorial" was walkthrough, or if they just... don't know that they're not really being helpful... 9_9;;
