I dunno what came over me, but I suddenly felt the desire to paint and also fanart just kind of happened??? I miss Luke hahaha, I've been itching to re-watch the Tales of the Abyss anime since... I have... no time/no one to play the game with... ;=; So much nostalgia for this game, still so many feelings sob;;;Anyway, my digital painting skills are... really... sad and really rusty lmao;;;; I wanna brush up on that;;;
I've been doing some small landscape studies in gouache though, been thinking of posting some of those soon~
Anyway, hope you guys enjoy this sad sap! Luke's growth as a character was great, but what really got to me was how real and believable he felt, I mean, he would still do the right thing as a "hero" but he had such honest fears of disappearing, of not getting to live his life for himself... please play this game if you haven't already sob, I can't really vocalize my feelings adequately but I love this game so muchhhh

Tales of Symphonia and Tales of the Abyss left a really good impression on me.
They're my all-time favourites from the Tales of series. I remember hating Luke in the first part of the game.
But later on when he understands he has to change himself and his way of thinking I started to like him a lot.
He has such an amazing character development and we as players can see and feel how honest he is about it.
But honestly, the whole story writing and the character's in this are amazing. Can't understand why there is still no remaster...
I really like this picture a lot because you show us that Luke is still a weak person. He needs his friends and their trust.
Otherwise he might lose himself and his reasons which you seem to have drawn here as your topic.
The coloring looks amazing. I simply love how the green light illuminates him. ♥
The contrast between dark blue and light blue looks really great. It creates a really touching atmosphere.

And ahahaha th-that's alright, to be honest the only Tales games I've really loved at Symphonia and Abyss... and Abyss much more lmao. I haven't really had the time to sit down and play ANY games since high school either, sob ;=;
(but, psst, y'know, there's a Tales of the Abyss anime, it's still not as good as the game but it's pretty loyal to the plot so I've been enjoying rewatching that~ i-if you and Hana watch anime, idk... <:'3c )

Ahahaha, w-well I asked one friend to watch the anime but they were pretty disappointed in it, it's not a great-quality anime (I mean, it had to compress a 60-hour gameplay into 26 episodes hahaha) sooooo idk now about recommending it...
(everyone should watch Seirei no Moribito though, that is an A+ series with great everything and a badass babe so uhhhh <:'D that I can recommend fullheartedly ahahaha)

TALES OF LINK...to me? Is fun ahaha. It's one of the only mobile games I play anymore. I guess it depends on what sort of mobile games you like? It's kinda like you have heroes you get randomly from rolls bought with things called hero stones (5 for 1 roll, 50 for 10 rolls lmao..) and you equip and 'train' them to make em stronger and then all your units have a collective health bar to fight enemies and bosses with. The characters are all on a little grid and each one stands on a different shape/colored tile and you make stronger attack chains by drawing lines and zig-zag like-chains together (like four stars) and then certain percentages determine when characters will use a mystic arte...stuff like that? haha. I hope I explained at least somewhat. I personally find it fun to do in little bursts. They also hold events where you can get certain armors or special characters, etc. (like they had a vampire jade once and i wanted it..so bad...i also missed the god general event and its like :'l )

Ahhhh, I was wondering if there was much character interaction/story to Tales of Link? it sounds like a lot of fun though! Haha I doubt my phone has enough space/capacity to handle it but maybe I'll check and see... some of the uniforms and stuff I've seen do look super-fun-!
And haha Vesperia had some great character designs and world-! ...but I was disappointed in the story so much lmao
Maybe I should revitalize the oekaki...?? I spent so long trying to bring back the lost data but couldn't; but maybe a fresh start...? ;=; I just don't really have that much time to keep up with it haha, I feel bad for being neglectful, but I dunno if anyone else would be interested in taking over. xD

Ohh! There is kinda? But it stars like original characters I'm not really interested in and then guest stars regular tales of characters but I honestly skip all the dialogue and interactions..I'm more interested in just playing the game itself

ahh my favourite tales of game!!! Everything about that game was such on a higher bar than most of the other games, I loved it so much! I wanna play that game again too, it's been a really long time! This is such a cute Luke too!

Did you get to play the game with your sister/friends?? It's such a fun game to play multiplayer, maybe that's part of my fond memories but we'd always play together and it was so great hahaha, we used to fight nebilim for shits and giggles since she made so many fonon fields for us to spam xD

YES ABSOLUTELY! what i really loved about Abyss was that there were no extraneous characters that had a sub par connection to the plot. I've played Symphonia (the game of infinite side quests holy shit LOL) and a few other games from the series but I always found that they had all these bad habits of adding characters that didn't really need to be there. So to see all the characters connect and actually have a strong development arc was really refreshing, and I agree there's no characters that I didn't like! (I mean Mohs was frustrating but he still made a good villain, heh!)
I used to play it with my sister a lot! actually that used to be the kind of game that me, my sister and my brother would all play together because that battle system was so freaking fun! (he played more of Symphonia with us than Abyss, for some reason he liked symphonia more or something lol)
and another thing that I love about the game is that their renders are so visually pleasing? Like the colour design and just the shape of their silhouettes and everything look so damn good??? Actually the whole game is designed so well, all the environments and everything look great!
Also the main opening theme of Tale of the Abyss is actually one of my faves, it's so catchy!

I never really thought about the visuals of the game haha, I remember going back to play it the hard pixeled edges bothered me somewhat--this game would benefit SO MUCH from a PS3/4 remake I swear, but it never sold well in the US... ;=; Still, I'll wish and pray for that day hahaha...
I mean, like you said man it's just such a fun game to play in person with other friends, the 3DS version loses all of that multiplayer joy~
And yes gawd I just love EVERY CHARACTER in Abyss so much, everyone was so relevant and had such important arcs... it's really sad many of the later games didn't have that layer of depth at all. :/ I still feel like the Tales series has been nothing but flashy character designs and flawed battle systems since, it was a real shame when they lost the writer for Symphonia and Abyss, Takumi Miyajima...

MMmmm yeah, the series really lost it's touch unfortunately and there hasn't been anything that really has brought me back to the series aside from revisiting old faves. It's a shame they lost that writer, the franchise isn't the same without them
I just started replaying the game right now and I'm having a lot of fun with it ahhhh! It's so good to see all the characters in action again, I forgot how hilarious Jade was and I forgot how much of a brat Luke was in the beginning. I mean I remembered a bit but I forgot the extent of how rude he was LOL. It's all just good stuff!

Oh man I just got to the part when Luke cuts his hair and I've just got Guy back on my team, the scenes leading to this huge turning point has always been something I really enjoyed with the story! Luke becomes so humble and sweet ahhhh ;___; tbh it's so hard to choose a favourite character from the game, I like them all too much!
