The title is a Latin word and means 'To Venus'.

I made this with the following Latin poetry in mind.
It's written by the Roman poet Lucretius and is the intro for his literary work De Rerum Natura ('About Nature').

Here is a little bit of it with the translation in English below.

Aeneadum genetrix, hominum divomque voluptas,
alma Venus, caeli subter labentia signa
quae mare navigerum, quae terras frugiferentis
concelebras, per te quoniam genus omne animantum
concipitur visitque exortum lumina solis:
te, dea, te fugiunt venti, te nubila caeli
adventumque tuum, tibi suavis daedala tellus
summittit flores, tibi rident aequora ponti
placatumque nitet diffuso lumine caelum.

Mother of Rome, delight of Gods and men,
Dear Venus that beneath the gliding stars
Makest to teem the many-voyaged main
And fruitful lands- for all of living things
Through thee alone are evermore conceived,
Through thee are risen to visit the great sun-
Before thee, Goddess, and thy coming on,
Flee stormy wind and massy cloud away,
For thee the daedal Earth bears scented flowers,
For thee waters of the unvexed deep
Smile, and the hollows of the serene sky
Glow with diffused radiance for thee!

I have had 7 years of Latin classes at my high school and I really love the language and the culture and nowadays I am still inspired by it. I have even translated this in 5th grade, that's how I remember it.

Venus is often portrayed as the goddess of lust and love (and most particulary the act of love). I love that Lucretius also portrays her as the bringer of all life. That's a bit how I wanted to portray her in this picture. Not necessarily as a love goddess but as a goddess of life and renewal. Her dress seems to change into a spring, which flows through the forest and feeds the plants and the trees. I chose a spring theme because spring symbolises new life, a new start, a new beginning.

I used a picture of the well known model Threnody in Velvet (Morgana) as a pose reference. Her outfit, hair, background and everything else was made up from scratch. I didn't even make a sketch beforehand, just started to paint on the paper straight away. It was a challenge but I really like the result!

I usually like leaving worthy comments on your beautiful work but I'm just struggling to find what exactly to say. It's all gorgeous. What you wanted to depict in this painting of Venus, all has been accomplished in my opinion, especially when displaying her as the goddess of life. It's just.... gorgeous. Amazing work, Hun!
