Description My entry for the Elementals Contest by .

So, I'd always meant to do a followup to Net Angel but never really got around to it.  But then lo and behold, a contest!  At first, I planned to do something like fire and water, with two figures standing back to back.  Then I realized that this had probably already been done many times before.  Heck, I also realized that I'd already done it before as well.  What to do then?

So I took a look through my gallery, and thought to myself, "Hmm, I've been doing a lot of cyber-punk, so why not do something cyber-punky again?"  Of course, the negative part of me went and answered, "You twit, it's a contest about elementals!  You know, fire, earth, air, water (heart!), and all that jazz."  So that idea was abandoned at first.  Then I saw that the contest also included "the newfangled chemistry elements"!  And there it clicked, silicon is an element, silicon is included in computer stuff, boom!  Silicon Elemental!

The entire thing was generated with a 3D model for the...  well, model and with fractal flames generated in Apophysis .  The flames were then cut up, and repositioned to fit wherever I wanted them on the model (which was used initially as a guide).  Once all the flames were in place (creating hair out of fractal flames to put on a bald model was actually easier than I thought) the layer for the base model was then removed.

Add a bunch of artsing, painting, adjusting, tweaking, etcetera-ing, I was able to get a good handle on how I wanted it to look.  Problem was, even with the phosphor grid, it looked rather bland.  Then I remembered I had a picture of a motherboard lying around.  So I got that image, cut it up to remove boring stuff like PCI slots and whatnot, and assembled a background image that looked vaguely techy, but would probably explode if it were a real circuit board.

After that, I added the border, title, and bam, done!

Good job on the composition! Seems like you created a believable character that could've fitted either in Matrix or Halo as one fine looking Antagonist? O.O

I was thinking more along the lines of Neuromancer and related books, actually, hehe   But thanks
