Nice shot, it's not too blurred (as many fireworks shots around) it's just as it should be!

Wow, it's really an honor to have you ask my advice!!
A tripod will definitely help, though it's not necessary, but that's excellent thinking on your part.

It really depends on the type of camera- a point-and-shoot digital will almost always have a fireworks setting, which is pretty decent for a first try. As for more advanced cameras, a longer shutter setting is essential, such as 2 seconds or more. The longer the shutter setting, the more "blur" you'll have, so any more than ten seconds might not be wise. Also, a short setting would only capture a tiny amount of light.
As for the F-stop, you might want to play with that as well, but somewhere between around 4.6 or 5.2 will probably work.
Oh! almost forgot- the best time to actually push the trigger is probably right before or right as the firework explodes. Sometime you can see them shoot up into the sky first.
The absolute best thing you can do is play with your settings, and have fun. Take as many pictures as you can. Some will definitely not turn out as you expected, but the more pictures you take, the more beautiful shots you're going to get.
Good luck, and have fun!!!

(lol, ps- hope that wasn't too preachy. If it was, then my deepest apologies.)

It was a longer exposure, though I forget exactly how long. 1/60th seems to work well. Thanks!!
