Description
So, after I made some suggestions on *Ichigo-Rush 's profile tutorial she told me I should make my own. So... I did. And here it is. Hope you like it, bb~I don't claim to be an expert on face structure, but I know a bit about profiles. Hopefully it makes sense and y'all can read my crappy handwriting. Let me know if you have any questions. :]
I'd like to point out that there are so many different variables. Don't just stick to what you see here. Experiment. Please. Everyone's face is different, so give all your characters distinct features! It'll make them more realistic, and it's FUN! If you're having trouble with it, don't be afraid to look up some pictures for reference. It never hurts to have a real face to look at, even if you're drawing in a cartoonish style.
I learned the frame technique here . It's an excellent tutorial, and I suggest you check it out. Helps you to understand face structure a lot better.

Hm... i drew my first ever profile face thanks to this guide of yours, so you may be proud now lol
But it lacks more examples without drafts IMO.
At that time my imagination refused to think of anything related to faces,
so i had to look up for few examples in other artists galleries

It can be a bit tricky, but if you look at some refs or just study people in your daily life (that sounds creepy but it's not, I swear!) and practice, you'll get it in no time. I'm glad I could be of some help. Keep up the good work!

I normally look at people's anatomy in my free time...That, or I'll get my friends to stand a certian way so I can study it more...I have a hard time drawing things around me unless their photos. and thanks ^_ ^

Yes, drawing from life tends to be a lot more difficult than from pictures. One trick to help a little bit is to close one eye while you're studying the person; this greatly lowers your depth perception and makes things appear more 2-D, thus making them easier to depict on paper (in 2-D). Another good trick is to focus less on what you're drawing than on the form of what you're drawing. Don't think "I am drawing a nose" because unconsciously you're going to be drawing what you think a nose should look like instead of what is in front of you. Just focus on the shapes and lines, let your eyes be your guide. Try not to look at your paper too often if you can help it. Hands are a really good way to practice this, even if you're interested in drawing faces, as you always have one available for reference and hands are so complex and versatile. Once you get in the habit of drawing from life it becomes a lot easier. It just takes a lot of practice.
Okay wow that was really, really long. I'm sorry, feel free to ignore all of that, I just felt compelled to offer a bit of advice from one aspiring artist to another. Best of luck in all you do.

No, I thank you for telling me that, I never really thought of the closed eye thing...But I honestly don't think I'm good enough to not look at the paper quite yet
Thanks again This really helped me

I'm glad to be of help in any way I can. And there's no shame in not feeling ready for it - like I said, it just takes a lot practice. Don't worry about it looking good, because seriously, drawing without looking at your paper is HARD and it isn't going to look good for a LONG TIME. The things I draw blind still don't look good, haha. But it does help in some strange way to not worry about the outcome and just focus on developing the coordination between your hand and eye. Then, when you've got that down a little better, it just makes it so much easier to draw from life while looking back and forth between your paper and your subject. Ideally one would only need to look at the paper to position their pencil, but I highly doubt that there are many in the world who are that good. Just try your best and I'm sure you'll go far.

Rofl, "Troll? O__o"
Great job on the many variations! Profiles are my favorite angle of the human face to draw, by far I personally have trouble with faces that are angled far up or far down...

LalaineRG In reply to Pearldoor [2010-05-15 03:06:25 +0000 UTC]
Haha, yep.
Same here! Profiles are so much more interesting... and a lot easier. Haha. Yes, the extreme angles can be difficult... mostly because of the neck, for me. Like, what do you do with it? I'm always lost. Haha.

Pearldoor In reply to LalaineRG [2010-05-16 17:05:51 +0000 UTC]
Hmm, most of the time, necks come naturally to me. They're just like a continuation from the chin. I guess you just have to think of it not as a separate 'body part' (?), but really that depends on the person you're drawing. My neck extends to just an inch or two past the end of my jaw, so my necks tend to be a sloped line directly from the chin, if that makes sense? Skinnier people's necks tend to begin farther back and you can see more of the tendons beneath the skin.
Well....when in doubt, look up a reference XP Or I take my own, of my face. Which is why my characters tend to have some striking similarities to me. Who knew. Sorry this is so long, I hope I helped a little, haha~

LalaineRG In reply to Pearldoor [2010-05-16 23:27:37 +0000 UTC]
Hmm... yes, I understand what you mean... I think it's because usually when I draw those angles I'm drawing men, and I like making the tendons and everything very pronounced because I think it looks manry and cool. Hahaha. So yeah, I have trouble sometimes. But ah well. It's fun nonetheless.
Yep, that's what I do a lot, too. I use my hands for like all hands that I draw, so everyone has long slender fingers... even the men. Poor men. D: lawl. But then I'm always like "Wait, can normal people do that with their hand...?" because I have VERY flexible fingers. I try to tone it down when I'm using them for reference. |D

Haha, my fingers are really bony and they stick out and...I dunno, they look like an old person's hands xp but I still use em as ref.
Lucky you, my men tend to have womanly necks

As long as you have four fingers and a thumb I think you're good. Even if you didn't you could just draw in the extra digit anyway.
My hands are actually one of my favorite parts of my body. Even though they are odd, they're pretty. *u* Also they are bendy. Haha.

Wooah that's intense. Do your shoulder blades stick out a lot or something? One of my friends' stick out REALLY far and we call them wings, lulz. But she has really bad back problems because of it (and other things) so it's sad. :T
