If the temple wasn't destroyed, I'd think Garnet and Pearl would've taken the ones they liked too. Especially Garnet, who can indeed carry the biggest hourglass and then some. I love how Steven defies gender norms and everyone loves him. Only one person was ever embarrassed to be around him, and that was Lars. It seems as though most young male protagonists in media are expected to not be "cute" in a "girly" way - they are always either annoying or "manly." And then there's Steven, who loves shmultz and calls inanimate objects "adorbable" whilst simultaneously getting pumped to see some awesome carnage a la Sugilite.
He's not a trope. He's Steven. And he's adorbable for that.
