Description
Despite returning home, things are moving very slowly. Now I wonder where is actually a better place for me. Or perhaps life as a student will always be more relaxing.To kick things off, I thought I'd practise my colouring by entering 's colouring competition (which can be found here [link] ).
It's also a fun idea to see how my colouring looks like in other's lineart. Perhaps you might also want to try it? Deadline is 15 Dec 2010. More details here [link]
I hope my colouring skills have not regressed. Sort of digged my own grave when I decided to colour the hair pink. It kinda sets the possible colours that goes with it OTL And I also like to keep my colours simple and minumum.

!Was kinda worried if other contestants have same/similar colour schemes. If that ever happens, it's purely coincidental, I swear!
By the way, I had good fun doing this while slowly busting my lazy bugs

kan, kan?! i just decided the hair should be pink and everything falls into place, except for the stockings. since i just coloured without thinking about the background, i spent a long time looking for one.

Very bright colors. Interesting stockings. I was wondering if it was necessary to keep the signature on the plate, but I guess not since its not in the rules or on any of the other submissions that I see. Great to see new work from you!

i still feel the colours are rather flat, how can i make them more 3D? i guess all the hardwork finding a suitable background pays off. coz i kinda just coloured before i actually look for one.
for some odd reasons, i downloaded a lineart without the signature. and i also found many entries without it too.
you want to try out for the traditional category? since you are quite good at that

It is a little flat near the top, but that's because of the lighting. I think its appropriate. The hair and shorts have a good amount of volume.
My try it traditionally? Near thought of that...but maybe! I like hellobaby's work...in fact I have "her"(?) in my devWatch list. We shall see....though I really need to practice with CG coloring.

i think her clothes need more volume, some of the lighting is a bit off. sigh... it's always those after thoughts, lol!
it was a good try. i actually learnt something from colouring this pic. it contains things that i don't usually draw, and her folds on clothes are different, hair texture etc. i spent a lot time thinking how to go about colouring these things. stimulated my mind somewhat ^^
i think hellobaby is a she too. such a nice and sweet person.

Its good to get the mind involved and not just paint blindly, lol.
So hellobaby has to be a she just because she is nice and sweet? lol. So guys are mean and sour? Yes, but I think the profile icon gives her away.... but you never know. Her artstyle... her technique seems like a girlish style. Its interesting, but I've noticed things like this, though there are always exceptions.

just a feeling, she (assumption again) likes to talk in an endearing way, using lots of 'dears' in her journals and comments.
but ya, can't really tell for sure. some shounen mangakas are women, like my favourite Satou Fumiya

haha. You know, Satou Fumiya sounds like a female name...but on my Kindaichi volumes, the drawing of her and the writer Seimaru Amagi on the inside of the dust jacket, she draws herself in a way that doesn't look feminine. Almost like the two of them look the same.

does satou fumiya sounds like a female name? maybe i was too accustomed to the chinese translation to her name the taiwanese publishers gave her -- 佐藤文也 -- since her name is all hiragana. and she likes to draw herself looking like a man in her omakes too.

Hmm...well, looking at the kanji 文也 isn't very feminine. But...I dunno...the sound of Fumiya seems appropriate to for a woman. Really? I havn't seen the omakes.

i thought names that ends with kanji 也 is usually male. of course the sound of 'ya' itself is kinda feminine - maya, mariya, aya.
'fumi' sounds girlish to me though. i think anything that ends with 'mi' sounds girlish to my ears. though it is rather difficult to imagine a person with the name Hiromi as a guy. somehow i blame the kanji, instead of 宏美, he could be 浩巳...

Yep. The kanji seems masculine but the sound itself sounds feminine. Isn't it something how we have this idea of how female names should sound and it seems to be somewhat cross cultural? Of course, there are exceptions...but I think one can generally tell a girls name.

there are certain 'sounds' that are popularly female or male, but there are always creative people
