I think I spent more time on the background than on anything else in this piece. GAHHHHH KNOTWORK TAKES SO LONG.

Isn't it? So many fairy tales have so many dark elements...Red Riding Hood, Snow White, Sleeping Beauty...

I learned in my illustration history class that a lot of these classic fairy tales were actually originally written for adults, and then were later sort of toned down for children.

I agree! Well, you can see that from the many love stories that occur in fairy tales. Besides, I am sure many of them where consolation stories to dream about for poor unfortunate girls or boys who hoped for a better life!

I did watercolor knotwork! it took me about 3 hours for each of the circles haha. Lots of time, lots of patience, and lots of iiiiiiitty bitty paint brushes. If you'd like to see a process, I could make a tutorial I suppose.Glad you like it, thank you!!!

Wow. Just wow. It's always unsettling to know my time estimation of a piece wasn't that far off, and there are artists with just that level of dedication and patience...seriously impressive!

I too thought it was a rather odd story. But then again, if you read the original versions of many of today's beloved fairy tales, they are...rather odd, and somewhat terrifying. Read the Red Shoes story, it's awful.
