Description
Origonally concieved in 1941, but delayed several years due to the attack on Pearl Harbor and the evantual war, this locomotive was a modern 4-6-0, based the London Midland and Scottish Railway's Stainer class 5 (Famously known as the Black 5).Evantually built in 1948, this locomotive type was numbered from 5450, with 50 examples in service. The class carried two schemes, Half with a Red and Cream trim, with the rest being painted in simple plain black. The engines were evantually followed by in 1952 a class that was based on British Railways 4MT light 4-6-0, a slighty more advanced version of the engines.
The engines were rather exceptional, mostly in medium express service, and were rather quick with hotshot trains. The engine's operating regions were the Frisco Pacific, the Mystic (Ex-York), and the Penn Jersey regions.
---
In 1968, a rebuilt version of 5452 appeared along the Northern Region mainlines. This engine was rebuilt with a larger boiler, larger drivers and several other mods that also included a double stack. It was renumbered 6133 and was rebuilt primarily as a test bed to see if other 5450 class engines could be rebuilt in this form, but due to the introduction of second generation diesels, the idea quickly fizzled out.

High running boards, American outlines.. some modification. Is this what might have been if Ivatt had designed a successor and up-boilered it !
Sillyness aside, they look very good, thank-you for sharing

They certainly did turn out well, and you're very welcome!
Perhaps you should do the 'Americanised' form of the Duchess to keep them company

Thought about doing the Duchess class, seems more suited to something like this then the Princess Class

Well, there is precedent of a Duchess working in the states, if you didn't already know : [link] (KGrHqF,!pEE63Yi!ovFBO)nTGrW(!~~60_35.JPG&w=300&h=236&ei=uRo4UIKRN6XG0QWppYG4Bw&zoom=1&iact=hc&vpx=509&vpy=194&dur=3970&hovh=188&hovw=240&tx=135&ty=91&sig=105410532400836716811&page=1&tbnh=137&tbnw=179&start=0&ndsp=26&ved=1t:429,r:2,s:0,i:79

Well, I've been in the know about the Duchess's tours of the US, but I was thinking along the lines of a more, "dramatic", design change XD

I shall look forward to seeing it
I suspect Stanier would be proud.. there were plans of his for a UK 4-6-4 and/or a 4-8-4, until WW2 came along so he wasn't adverse to thinking out side the box, like the other CME's of his time in the forms of Gresley and Bullied.

Woah... what Alex said. I love the four-axle tenders with these machines, very interesting to see. The drivers look really cool, too... are they of any particular prototype... type? XD
