This is the Haine + Naoto picture I was talking about, sorry I didn't upload the sketch =/ I started to color it furiously haha.. but you can kinda see what I meant that it's still in pencil and pretty sketchy.This picture is going to take me a very long time to color... I wanted to do something different this time around: color without lineart showing, and I took a very long and inefficient way of coloring, plus I have all the color except for the skin on one layer so it's much harder to erase and change..
I guess the thing that is hard for me to grasp is that my lineart is normally inked and clean, and I'm used to the clean/sharp aspect. This time around since it's kinda dark, I want more of a texture, like grungy, rough... i dunno and so I want to try coloring without lineart. But I'm looking at it now, and I think the sketch behind it does give it a nice rough feeling, so I'll have to see what I want to do with that..
Last thing. The background will be my first attempt at a real like background. It's like a city...the roof tops of buildings and such.. I've never done anything with perspective, but I've seen the whole disappearing point thing and stuff, I just don't know how to work it out, so please bear with me!
We'll see how it goes though. Any comments or critique at this stage is greatly appreciated as I can still make changes on anatomy and stuff. (you'll notice I already made a lot of changes from the lineart)

I really like this a lot, I can't wait until you finish the buildings in the background!
I would recommend downloading some grungy photoshop brushes for the texture of the building maybe? I remember going crazy downloading different brushes, and it was helpful as well as a lot of fun (You can get a lot of great blood and texture brushes all over, but I think there were even some on DA you could find...let me know if you need any help finding any/downloading questions!)
My only sort of warning is that the picture shouldn't be toooo dark, we want to be able to see the people clearly? Or rather, the people shouldn't be as dark as the background, but I'm sure you know that. I think you just quickly colored the background and once you work on that you'll fix it pretty easily.
Oh, and another thing, if I'm being constructive here 
I don't know what you think about all of that, but I can't wait until you finish this! Good luck with your non-lineart challenge, I'm sure it'll turn out great!

wow wow wow! Thanks sarah! well it's taking a really long time to work on this thing. grr my motivation is lessening every day >< I already started to cheat... and actually I took a picture from my europe trip and kinda adjusted it and plopped it in the background. Ugh.. this is so tough to do...
About the facial expression, yeah I know what you're talking about, and that'll come through once i get the conviction to put in my shadows. Currently there's only one layer of color and I haven't added any body or depth to anything. T_T

Dogs is great XD and I think that picture is really in the spirit of things, I agree with tickled-orange's comment the way you changed Heine's legs makes it look more natural.
As for the buildings.. the perspective looks okay, but then again till you add more details to it it'll be hard to tell if you've done it right or not.
To be honest the only that remotely even bothers me is Naoto's scarf it looks kind of odd and flat to be honest XDDD but otherwise I think this will be a great picture and dark and grungy id definietly the right style for this manga XD

I think this is looking great Carrie! I do really like the roughness of the sketch and as you said, it kind of adds to the tone. I like the colors you chose too.

Great advice Nicki...yeah that is a problem for me. See, this is like some weird night shot? so it's not like.. regular colors..or something, not too sure how to describe. So it was hard to get even the base coloring down because the colors aren't supposed to be as vibrant or something like that.
Then comes the question of what exactly is my light source! is it a street lamp...or is it the moon.. because that would mean a difference in light intensity...and yeah there's a lot to think about!

Mmm, I totally know what you mean. You could always paint multiple copies. I mean, you always save the sketch in case you totally screw up, but if you want to maybe make one where things are really dark and there's only a street light, and maybe one with the moon or something, it'd be fun to experiment with. Well, good luck figuring it all out!

I don't even know what this anime is hahah but this is still gnarly as always. :] I love how sketchy it is! Ha, dude, the background looks good even when it's just a little outline like the one you have now. It looks very techy and awesome-like.
PS: I like the new way his legs are bent. Just an afterthought. ;]

I've finally read Dogs so now I get this picture a little more. ;] Though I really really love Badou! And Nill. And Haine reminds me of Cloud. x]
But anyway, I really like this picture ESPECIALLY now, and since I'm used to the drawings in the manga, I can compare this to them. It's veryveryvery good and I'm faving it now, wahooooo.

Oh wow thanks!! ^^ YAY you read it! It's slightly confusing and all over the place, and it doesn't get updated too often, but I love the artwork.
Sadly, I think I'm putting this on hold for a while. What I want this picture to be is not something I can do yet..so I'm going to do smaller pics and practice the technique...hopefully I can get back to it sometime.

I think it was just a little confusing at first to get the names down, but it's not thaaaat bad. ;] I really liked the Naoto arc, maybe because it was the easiest one to understand? Hehehe.
You mean the coloring/outlining parts? That makes sense, take your time. :] You should practice on little things that aren't a huge piece of artwork like this one, that way this one will turn out superduper well! [I kind of repeated what you said, but you know what I mean haha.] I still really like this though, so I can ogle at it until you produce the final version.
