Description
This is a very, very old piece. I drew it like 3 years ago, and then completely forgot about it.... twice. Finally completed now, or like they say: better late than never. There is sort of story behind this one, but I won't be diving into it here. These two are both my characters, and the game they're playing - for those who don't know - is called Go: an ancient Chinese / Japanese strategy game ("ishi" means "stones" in Japanese, the game is played with stones). In the story both of these guys are good players, but the dragon is.... well, let's just say nobody is better than him. So hence the manticore's evident despair. I guess size doesn't really matter, in Go.
_____________
A few technical details: painted with Ps over a pencil drawing. No references. Textures for the board and the marble floor from CG Textures.
The inscription in the upper left is in Japanese and can be translated relatively as "good luck" or "good game".
P.S. I did this for my brother.

I'm not exactly sure. It should be somewhere in the dragon realm or nearby, say one of the elven cities in the valley of Dravindeil. Like, this mountain behind should be Azthyreat. But the architecture and the vegetation that you see over the balcony doesn't fit that theory much XD

I'm wondering were black and white captured that many stones on the board. ^^

If you look at the board closely (which is not so easy since the perspective and the lack of distinct grid) you can spot a place where the white stones are circling an empty space.... But, I mean, that's not a real game actually

I see a ponnuki at the upper right corner...but that would be just one stone. ^^
By the way I love the look of both players.

There's more empty spaces to the lower left from it.... one of the white stones, I see now, is almost hidden behind a black one. Yeah, I admit they're not very well outlined ....but, I assure you, I minded all that when I was doing the sketch - even the overall number of the stones in play. Must have misread something though while painting it later
Anyway, thank you very much!

I really like how you made the tile look shiny and reflective. Very subtle and well done use of light.

The poses and the expressions of both characters are amazing... But that's only a fraction of what I like about this picture!

hehehe i love thier expressions~ So much character! This is excellent on so many levels. I have a ton of old stuff to finish up as well, although I'm sure they wouldn't come out nearly as great as this~ Congrats on finishing it at last! It was well worth it!
