Description
Edit: No way! A DD, my first one! THANK YOU!!!Alcedo atthis, Eurasian Kingfisher, diving for a snack. These birds are incredible fishers, I've watched them diving on documentary films and it's a truly impressive sight. I really don't know how the photograph I used for ref was done. But the result is stunning and it was a pleasure to paint.
I focused most of my attention on the bubbles here. They took much of my imagination and inventiveness, and a few unsuccessful trials of the highlighting, until I finally got that look. Enjoy!

I was just thinking... How were you able to take a Photo underwater? öwö I am a great fan of Photography and love doing it in my free time, but still need to learn a lot about it, heh.
Anyways, this is a marvelous shot and one of those "One Moment in thousands" Pictures. You are very skilled.

This is not a photograph, it's a painting But the reference photo IS indeed a great shot. They use specialized waterproof boxes to shelter the camera underwater, and this one was probably taken this way. It's a part of a series really.
Anyway, thank you!

It is? Oh god, I need to find my Glasses again, I lost them 3 Months ago, heh.
But wow, Thanks for the advice. I think those waterproof shelters are more expensive than the small Camera I got for Christmas.
And Sure thing. >w<

Heheh, I take it as a compliment since I'm aiming for realism
Yes, the high quality ones are very expensive, but they are also reliable. One wouldn't want their super-expensive professional camera (and lens) ruined because of a random leak. But there is a cheaper solution too - small compact cameras which are suitable for underwater shots. They don't last long, but they are cheap so I guess it's ok.

aw that fish looks so cute, but so is the hungry bird, jdfhshdjhh dilemma lol
really like the lighting and water surface reflection in the stones.. it's the most realistic part of the painting, imo.

A beautiful painting of a beautiful bird
The bubbles look so realistic.
He's come dangerously close to impaling his beak in the ground, though of course he wont, the precision and speed of these birds is very impressive.

Absolutely! I watched a film for them once and they pointed out how difficult to achieve is such precision considering the refractive qualities of water. And they sometimes dive in running streams and this is even more amazing!
Thank you so much!
