So yeah, Ash lost the Kalos league after coming so very close by being in the finals, down to the last Pokemon and even having the type advantage. And judging by the Youtube trailer for next week's ep, the fans are not too happy. Not yet Ghostbusters level of hate, but it'll grow.
Far as my 2 cents go......I had low expectations so I was prepared for the worst (I mean come on, this is the 6th time we've been here so for a fan who's watched since 1999, I know what to expect.) but boy, I truly believe they're going to regret it this time. We are in an era where fandoms REALLY speak out when they disapprove of something so heavily (Again, Ghostbusters 2016, anything DC Movies these days, etc.) so I think the ratings for next week's episode will be interesting to say the least. XY hasnt had the best of ratings compared to other regions like Sinnoh and even the Hoopa movie was the lowest performing out of the film series (And this year's looks to be doing as bad if not worse) so this decision to have Ash come so very close but nope might actually hurt the anime even more. Not the games or merch since they can be counted separate to the anime for the most part, but certainly anything relating to the anime.
So really, it does not effect me in the slightest. I knew there was always that chance of him losing, and he did, life goes on for me as normal and as a fan. There will be fans however that feel after this they can no longer commit to this show or character if everything he goes through in every league is all for nothing.....after 20 long years. Sure, the next gen of kids will no doubt watch, but the Japanese ones have an alternative, its called Yokai Watch.Β
And boy, if they decide to let Serena go, I feel the next league really could be the last. And not because they intended it to be the last.... @_@

That's the main reason why I don't really watch the anime anymore.
Why bother having the main characters get so close to their ultimate goals only for the producers to screw them over at the very end.

Read the awesome fic by Sahroneth, "Ashes of the Past".Β
It's a Peggy Sue story that has Ash repeating his adventure, and is much more epic than I can describe.Β
There's character development, worldbuilding, and Ash's Squirtle being a Guren Lagann fanboy. (The last point is the most hilariously awesome thing I've read in a long time. Trust me.)
He wins most of the leagues in it, but it's not made easy for him.

I don't think Game Freak have said there would be no Gym Leaders in Sun/Moon, everyone just assumed the island challenge thing was replacing it (But then if you're selling new games, you'll want to promote the newer features first then the familiar stuff.)
Could still be the fact, just don't thin people should jump the gun just yet...,.

I might have a crazy thought for all this. We took the theory of Ash winning the Kalos league too seriously and without any second thoughts or setbacks got too hyped for the episode. It's the curse ofthe hype, my friend. The curse of the HYPE.
Or atleast that's my opinion. But at least Ash took his defeat with a smile on his face. AND it wasnt from a certain scrub from Sinnoh with two legendaries again, amiright?

Just because Winning a Pokemon League is a Requirement (presuming that it is) doesn't mean it's the only requirement. Β Besides, all that a Tournament Win would grant is the right to face the Elite, if that.

I'm happy he got second place, but the saltiness came with the trolling title. Blame whoever made the title because not one of us didn't jump to that conclusion. He's come farther than he's ever gone before...and most likely never will again because they love abusing him for money.
Here's hoping the ratings drop so low that they have no choice but to cut the filler and give him the league and end it forever.
We can all dream.

PokΓ©mon has its way with its wording. Exact words are when the literal wording is more important than the spirit. They never said anything about Ash winning; the title wasn't "Ash's Victory".
Another time that exact words happened is when GameFreak said "no Gen 6 PokΓ©mon would get a Mega Evolution (at least in XY)", they meant exactly that; Diancie, a Gen 6 PokΓ©mon, got a Mega and it cannot be obtained in XY.

We understand, but let's be honest, who DIDN'T get mislead by that trolling title? Not to mention: "ASH'S DECISIVE BATTLE!" Seemed pretty serious.

I gave up after gen 4 repeated the cycle. I hated it honestly in gen 3. Holy shit did it hurt to see the same song and dance in 6....
There was no way Gen 5 was going to be good in the anime, the anime is so cutesy it literally makes me sick.
My advice for future seasons. Drop Ash and bring in new trainers, git gud with the writing, get darker.... Fuck git gud with the writing! Even the cutesy atmosphere could work if you were just good with it.
Tho honestly their going to catch flak in gen 7 regardless of what they do. Ass loses people give up, he wins they get the "Why did it take so fucking long?" burn.

Japan likes cute, lighthearted comedy while the West prefers dark, serious drama in PokΓ©mon. XY tried to settle a compromise for both audiences. It undid Ash's flanderization from 5 and Team Rocket retained some competence while still being funny.

Ok EVERYONE!!! Stop freaking out look I know we are all disappointed that Ash lost...but he still won in a sense, he made it to second place something that has never happened to him before. Unova had a shitty ending Ash lost to that retard Cameron, but Alain he shows how. Much Ash has grown as a character and trainer, he battled the best he could it's just Alain was probably training his Charizard longer than Ash did with Greninja also he didn't have the type advantage charizard X is a Fire/ DRAGON meaning Water shurrikeen only did normal damage, but let's be happy cause it was still an epic battle!!! And that Ash is one step closer to becoming the champion, so possibly in the next league he'll use a team of his strongest pokemon and that includes Greninja. Sure I wished Ash had won but it's not the end of the world it is merely another step

Indeed.
So what if he always loses? It's the journey that I was interested in, not the final battles. I liked watching the development the characters had along the way.
(This is just my opinion, but I think that Diamond and Pearl was also a good part of the anime. Dawn's development as a Coordinator was well-done, the Foreshadowing was done well, and the entire show got really dark at points. The development Ash went through was really good, especially when Paul was concerned. Also, the Sinnoh Movie Trilogy.)

yes exactly, I personally love the sinnoh journey, they have great characters (Ashs team) not just that team but Team Kalos was well done too, I love Serena as a character and am a big amourshipper and Alain was an amazing rival he even has his own story centered episodes. Though I personally hate clemot he's the worst companion Ash has ever had...even worse than Iris.... He's basically a rip off of Brock, instead his sister does the asking girls out gag...
(I love the sinnoh trilogy too though I wished we focused more on the Angels and devil vs god fight that was my favourite parts,)
What I think they will do next is have Ash challenge the Alola league but like the Battle frontier he'll use his older Pokemon especially Ash-Greninja and people are saying its the 20th anniversary so he should have won...well those people dont realise this year is the games anniversary next year is the Animes 20th anniversary as well as the 20th Pokemon movie. Also due to popular rumours it says in sun and moon we will create the league so maybe the champion of the league in the anime is the games protagonist or maybe we might even see Red himself...(I know he and Ash are counterparts but it would be cool and he could have been the one who won the first league)
