Description I've marked it as spoiler so if you read any further then this, blame your eyes not me.

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

So yeah, Ash lost the Kalos league after coming so very close by being in the finals, down to the last Pokemon and even having the type advantage. And judging by the Youtube trailer for next week's ep, the fans are not too happy. Not yet Ghostbusters level of hate, but it'll grow.

Far as my 2 cents go......I had low expectations so I was prepared for the worst (I mean come on, this is the 6th time we've been here so for a fan who's watched since 1999, I know what to expect.) but boy, I truly believe they're going to regret it this time. We are in an era where fandoms REALLY speak out when they disapprove of something so heavily (Again, Ghostbusters 2016, anything DC Movies these days, etc.) so I think the ratings for next week's episode will be interesting to say the least. XY hasnt had the best of ratings compared to other regions like Sinnoh and even the Hoopa movie was the lowest performing out of the film series (And this year's looks to be doing as bad if not worse) so this decision to have Ash come so very close but nope might actually hurt the anime even more. Not the games or merch since they can be counted separate to the anime for the most part, but certainly anything relating to the anime.

So really, it does not effect me in the slightest. I knew there was always that chance of him losing, and he did, life goes on for me as normal and as a fan. There will be fans however that feel after this they can no longer commit to this show or character if everything he goes through in every league is all for nothing.....after 20 long years. Sure, the next gen of kids will no doubt watch, but the Japanese ones have an alternative, its called Yokai Watch.

And boy, if they decide to let Serena go, I feel the next league really could be the last. And not because they intended it to be the last.... @_@

If you wanna see the trailer for next week's ep to see how the thumbs down are doing or contribute to it, be my guest. www.youtube.com/watch?v=kkDBCB…

I haven't seen it and won't be seeing it until the dub gets here, by personal preference, but after the nonsense that happened last league (the opponent only brought in five Pokémon because he was a scatterbrain - so much so he wouldn't even have qualified if Ash hadn't helped him earlier - and his Riolu evolved into Lucario midway into its battle - just like pretty much all of Ash's gym battles that region, which I consider karma), hearing Ash lose despite the advantages just makes perfect sense. And judging by the sounds of having type advantage, I think I know which trainer it is even.

The whole Greninja thing bugs me anyway.
Ash: "Greninja has this special power because he and I are so close to each other!"
Pikachu: "I HAVE BEEN HERE FOR TWENTY YEARS"

At least I'm still curious what the play with Team Flare is now (plus Chespie's fate), so this won't deter me, really.

He lost AGAIN? If it was down to Mega Charizard, my hate for that thing is gonna skyrocket. The writers might as well just fuck the damn thing, especially since its Mary Sue-ness somehow enabled it to beat Mewtwo in the travesty that was Pokemon Origins (for the record, if a Special Defense-focused Pokemon like Articuno is going down with just Swift, Mega Charizard X, which has much worse Sp.DEF and only a bit more speed than Articuno, is NOT SURVIVING).
I admit I don't care that much about the anime, but honestly, for some reason this has set me off because it's seriously bad writing. Yet another ridiculous contrivance has come out of nowhere to screw him over, and he'll lose all the lessons he's learned in time for the next series. It just feels like a cheap way to set up the next series, right up there with 'Suddenly, DARKRAI' from Sinnoh, coupled with the same tired 'OMG CHARIZARD IS THE MOST AWESOME POKEMON EVER' bullshit we've been getting for most of the anime. Seriously, people, this so-called badass dragon is a 5'7 (about 170 cm - and read its Pokedex, it is only that tall. I'm 4 inches taller than it!) lizard which goes down when hit by a pebble.
This also sends the message that you can work really hard to pursue your goals, dedicate absolutely everything to them, and life will just fuck you over and make everything you did totally meaningless because it wants to, and thinks your pain is funny. Don't ever do anything, kids. Life hates you and will crush your dreams.

The message is actually to keep your head up in the face of disasters. Why be so pessimistic?

Mega Charizard isn't the Mary Sue/Marty Stu. That would be Richie and Virgil.

Charizard in general has been throughout the series. Credit to Alain for being a well-done character, I'll concede, but almost every time Ash needs a strong Pokemon for something, why, hello there Charizard! The writers basically used Origins as a vehicle to shill Mega Charizard - most of the original journey was left out for it, and the final battle between Red and Blue seems to suddenly reverse type match-ups so Charizard can come out on top.
The only reason Ash keeps going is because the writers need him to. Why hasn't he ever tried to win a League again? If he is still meant to be ten despite all these years passing, constantly getting beaten at the last hurdle is still going to make him feel pretty down. He must be feeling SOMETHING hates him.
And realistically, life will try its utmost to utterly crush any hopes and dreams you have. I speak from experience.

Ash keeps going because that's what he does. He keeps a smile in the face of adversity; at the end of the day, he's still the real winner because he knows that it's not the end of the world if one loses a game. I don't know where you get the idea of life crushing hopes and dreams from, but it actually helps you achieve them. It's the attitude that's the problem.

Yup, Mega Charizard.

You'd thinking having owned one for many years, Ash would know a Charizard inside and out....

You would, but... Hell, I'd better not think about it or I'll let myself get aggravated. I think even the fans will be rather jaded by this one.

Gojiro7 [2016-08-18 15:25:03 +0000 UTC]

this show is becoming a bad life lesson to people because the whole point of chasing your dreams is the ideal that you'll get there eventually.....its 20 years later and that damn kid is still trying to become a pokemon master of something XD  thats the point I would pack up my bags and move back home and become a farmer or something because the whole "you'll succeed if you never give up"  thing isn't paning out if it means a life time of failure to get there

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

PinkDuskStone In reply to Gojiro7 [2016-09-17 17:39:17 +0000 UTC]

His determination and valor make him someone to look up to. If he threw in the towel, that would go against everything he stands for, and no one likes out-of character moments without valid justification. Why do you think he and Goku are popular characters? Because they're ideals! It's not about the end result, but the journey.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Gojiro7 In reply to PinkDuskStone [2016-09-17 18:30:17 +0000 UTC]

the point of these stories of determination is that eventually all the hard work and sacrifice pays off.......but its been over a decade,  just let the kid win the damn tournament and lets please move on already,  you can only dangle that carrot for so long before the rabbit gets bored and wonders off.

Gojiro7 In reply to PinkDuskStone [2016-09-18 10:07:58 +0000 UTC]

because finally achieving your goal isn't perfection, especially when if it doesn't take half your life in Ash's case,   lets not forget that at this point, Ash is in his mid 20's and still trying to make that dream of his happen,  its a good thing all anime characters are ageless immortals XD

yeah, like I said, its a good thing that animated characters never age unless its in service to the story, and in ash's case he'll be 10 years old for the rest of time XD

honestly its strange they still have him as old as he started because even training for the first pokemon league took him several months and between all the other places he's been too its crazy to think not even a year has gone passed since then XD

I've completed the entire ORAS Regional Pokedex (I caught em all, literally), gotten all the Mega Stones, gotten all the 20th Anniversary legendaries so far, basically a Pokemon Master, all in the span of about a year.

Ash has been doing this "Pokemon Master" shit for 20 years now, and has done less than me.

Starfighter364 In reply to TheYoyleflake [2017-01-16 15:45:37 +0000 UTC]

You do realize that unlike in the games, other characters keep improving as well, right? You can't expect Ash to automatically get superior to every other character like that, since they grow like he does, not to mention that I doubt that the anime progresses at the same rate as real life, since by the time he the anime had been going for about three years, he had had Pikachu for two years, and in the fifth real world year, it was mentioned in an advertisement commercial that he'd been on his journey for three years.

Oh come on, don't be like that! Besides, think of it from Ash's point of view and answer the following question. What's more important: Winning a league or saving people and pokemon? Ash may be aiming for 'the very best like no one ever was', but as his character has shown he is willing to put that all to the side if someone is in danger...

...it is only now that I realize that I am off topic. The point is, Ash came out of this defeat smiling, and I actually like how the writers are approaching the Team Flare Arc, where the League has just finished up, and the two best trainers are both not in the best shape when dealing with the disaster. Why can't we put aside our usual hate for Ash not winning a league and focus on the Team Flare Arc?

...or, you know, you can just ignore my comment and go on with the rest of your life ignoring the Pokemon Anime without ever considering that it can recover.

I agree with you. Ash did his very best this year and made it to second place. Sure, it's no gold trophy, but honestly after seeing how everyone negatively reacted towards the end of the match is really no reason to get fricking butthurt about it. The most important part of this whole fight was that Ash is showing some improval after all his failed attempts in the entire series. (Except for the Orange Islands, but that's not the point.) The point is that this year, he really did his very best in the Kalos League, especially against Alain's Pokemon. Hell, I still couldn't believe Ash's Pikachu managed to beat both Alain's Tyranitar and Metagross. That's why Alain's Charizard took down the poor yellow mouse cause of how much effort it put into the battle.

And if i had to be honest, I too was heartbroken after Ash's Greninja fainted from Charizard's Blast Burn. But because of how great his match was with Alain, Ash didn't get upset or anything like that. In fact, he enjoyed that battle despite how Alain's attitude throughout the entire Kalos League dramatically changed from when he first met Ash and became too focused on proving everybody in the stadium that he was the strongest trainer ever. Usually, he was a good sport when it came to battles too.

Tl;dr Everyone in the pokeanime fandom got overhyped and were too focused on seeing Ash win the Kalos League. THAT is the possible reason why everyone's upset that Alain won instead of Ash.

GymLeaderAyden In reply to Variable-Zero-1 [2016-08-19 01:00:49 +0000 UTC]

The difference is that no one was in danger during the fight, so he lost because of bulls***... It's just another cliche Pokemon anime writer. They were doing good, but this loss cannot be justified

Variable-Zero-1 In reply to GymLeaderAyden [2016-08-19 01:32:51 +0000 UTC]

...well, I enjoyed the fight, despite Ash losing. And really, from the way it looked, if Allen lost, while he wouldn't have minded losing to Ash, he might've entered a Despair Event Horizon(yeah, I don't know why he needed to win, I haven't seen the subtitled version yet). Do you really want to see Allen enter a Despair Event Horizon?

I kid, but really, just watch what you want. All the more power to you.

Fire/Dragons take normal damage from Water attacks, not super effective damage, so Ash didn't have a type advantage. Let's also not forget that Alain defeated 10 Mega Evolving Pokémon with just his Mega Charizard X one after the other without a break at one point, including an Elite Four member's Pokémon as the final one, meaning his Charizard wasn't at his best, and don't forget he defeated a 50% Zygarde at one point. Taking anger out on Ash, or the writers, makes no sense, since it was very justified.
