Before there cybernetic upgrades, during the conflict, fighters had interchangeable tail blades. A variety of different knives to choose from posed a great usefulness in certain situations. Unfortunately some of these blades were unreliable due to cutting costs during the conflict. Sometimes in there free time they would argue over which tail blade was the best. Older tails close to the breaking point could not simply be scrapped unless they were broken first. To break the tails and get new ones, fighters would challenge each other to small competitions. The loser whose tail broke first had to go pull a new one off a casualty or do the tedious paperwork process of getting new ones.
