This is very arresting. You covered the spectrum from black to white admirably. A great mix of textures too. I hope you got an A!!!

Thanks for the great comment, hon!
We don't get grades, actually. If we don't do something correctly, we just do it over until we get it right. Everyone passes.

Great shapes and texture combination. They come out beautifully in black and white. Great work Kat.

Very nice tonal range and texture - and you've even got lost edges! A lovely composition, as always. Working in greyscale *is* harder to do than color!

I agree completely about color vs. greyscale. Thanks, Panny!

It isn't beautiful but it is exquisitely done. As always, the textures are phenomenal and I love the high contrast in the black and white rather than a more subtle grayscale.

LaPurr In reply to FractalEyes [2007-06-09 23:24:11 +0000 UTC]
No, it isn't beautiful; I thought it looked armored.
Our assignment is to make sure we hit all the points on a histogram scale, so the images have to be more dramatic in terms of whites and blacks rather than subtle greys.
Thanks for the great comment! I appreciate the fav, of course

OMGWOW! I am such a big fan of greyscale/B&W. It's amazing how many things are completely lost when color is present.... You have done a wonderful job here and you deserve a definitely!

Oh my...thanks for that great comment!
The fav is pretty great as well.
I totally agree about B&W images vs. color ones, but I love color, too! It's just that color can distract the eye and we pass over details at times to find the 'retty' places.

Can I just say "WOW!" I love it - Sometimes I think the beauty of fractals gets lost in all the colours. Take them away and you have such beautiful shapes and textures. I absolutely love the main spiral but the background sets it off "just so" and makes it really pop. Great work!!

LaPurr In reply to deloulark [2007-06-09 13:36:04 +0000 UTC]
I have to agree that color can be distracting at times. Sometimes the basic structure of a fractal can be lost in the movement of one's eye from color to color. This assignment was confusing to me at first until I understood that it's like going from color photography to black and white photography: it forces us to examine the structure, shape, texture and value more than we would with colors present.
Thanks for noticing the background, btw. It took me a long time to find something which I thought worked with that spiral. I'm really happy that you mentioned it.
Thank you very much for the wonderful comment and the fav.

I love this! As well as a sense of mystery - from the lighting - this also has a sense of purpose. Does that sound even more bonkers than usual?
Fantastic texturing & lighting

LaPurr In reply to WelshWench [2007-06-09 13:23:37 +0000 UTC]
Purpose? Do you mean that instead of my more typical full-image look, so to speak, there's a strong focal point?
No, no more bonkers than usual. Gill--->
Thank you muchly, m'dear!

WelshWench In reply to LaPurr [2007-06-09 14:04:50 +0000 UTC]
It does have a focal point, but what I should have maybe said was it looks purposeful .. like it has a battle to fight and it's heading towards it

This somehow reminds me of my tubes and spheres technique, UF+Kat's style of course! The big difference is that you can apply textures on these in UF, this is totally impossible with Apo and we have to find other tricks to enhance the pics...
Well anyway, this is another wonderful fractal, the light is beautiful and the depth really incredible. Great work Kat!

LaPurr In reply to CygX1 [2007-06-09 08:08:21 +0000 UTC]
Yes, UF does have some things that Apo can only dream of at this point (textures, layering and masking), but who knows what will happen in the future?
Thanks very much for that lovely comment!

A little creepy but a whole lot cool too. The background texture reminds me of old leathery skin, but the spirals are, as always, gorgeous. And of course you know I love grayscale !
Outstanding homework ma'am !!
