Description
This is a quilted wallhanging I made which took a first place at the Minnesota State Fair. Adding together the time spent thinking about and designing this quilt, finding the fabrics and actually making it, the 43 1/2" square wallhanging took one year to complete.*EDIT: November 5th 2006: I'm happily surprised to have this quilt featured as a DD.
Many thanks to ~MN-Vixen for suggesting it and to `dedredhed for featuring it.

Wooo! I can totally understand this piece taking a whole year to make, finding the right pieces and planning it all. The choice of fabric and colors are superb and a joy to the eyes.
A friend of mine wants to know if you used a sewing machine for some parts, to go faster.

Thank you so much for the lovely comment!
I used a sewing machine for all of it, including the quilting itself. You can barely see the quilting on the sides if you look carefully. It's quilted on the seam lines in the main part of the quilt and one inch apart all around the borders. The quilting went slowly because I had to start and stop so much. Sewing curves on the sewing machine isn't always easy and there was a lot of pinning and very slow sewing to keep the edges from distorting. The smaller circles are appliqued on top of the other work, but the half circles were sewn into the larger ones.

I just asked Ms. Post if she wants to live at your house and she said no. She said I'm her mom and she loves me and wants to stay here with me. So you hafta stop telling all these lies. It upsets her.
"There, there...I won't let the insane lady say anything else to you. Shhhh. Shhhh."
BTW......Pfffffffttt! to a hot dog! I have chocolate!

She's lying. They do that. She's ready to leave home ... she's already been IMing my quilts. There's a torrid online romance going on between her and Mr. Log Cabin. I'm tellin' you! It's hot! If you want to keep her, you'd better nail her down with a few 10-pennies. Otherwise, she's outta there!
And I'm leaving the stupid hot dog and taking the chocolate too!

Mr. Log Cabin? He's nothing but a fabric hound! He'd use her and toss her in a scrap basket in no time! I've heard all about him and his penchant for pre-washed fabrics..."So soft" he says. "Gets the starch out of 'em right from the beginning" he says. No way is he coming anywhere near my sweet and innocent Ms. Post. I'll keep her here if I have to hang her from a curtain rod for the rest of her natural life!
And stay away from the chocolate!

It's true he'a a cad! He's been pushing Downy hits in the chat rooms! But really, they'd have such cute little coverlets! We could split the litters, sell the shams and raise some to Kings and Queens for the real money.
Better use lag bolts and heavy duty velcro.... I hear she's been trying to make her break with the dry cleaning. I definately want to know she's been well taken care of when I get there. If I'm going to wear the stupid ninja suit she'd better still be pristine AND easy to find.
(I know where your priorities are.... for the chololate you get out the sword.)

LaPurr In reply to justravelin [2006-11-07 03:16:45 +0000 UTC]
Do you have any idea what it takes to raise a coverlet to a King these days? Not just the huge investment of time, but the cost! Laundry detergent alone can run into big bucks, let alone mending and stains and wear and tear. They're so rambunctious when they're small, too, always getting dirty, always dragging themselves through mud puddles...it's enough to drive you crazy! I don't care how cute they are when they're small, either, so don't bring that up. They grow...
No, you keep that scallywag away from my lovely Post. Handsome or not, he's not for her.
I've got her well in hand, don't you worry. That nonsense about the dry cleaning is a dirty lie, too! How well cared-for she is is no concern of yours. You just pay attention to ol' Cabin and leave her to me, thank you.
And yes, chocolate rates the sword. Deal with it.

Too late... she's already into bad boys! That girl's going to live on the edge no matter what! Have you checked the Goodwill bag lately? Millions, I'll make millions! Let's see, need to build a quilt-coop, buy corner biters, extra clothes pins.... spacebags.... fray-stop.... blocking frames... what's that spray-on teflon called?... litters, nah...herds! ...

Nah - there's always the trouble makers, but it's been statistically proven, whan raised in large family units, quilts are managable. You just need to remember to put them in their space bags at night...makes them feel secure.
