Description
This is a quilted wallhanging I made which took a first place at the Minnesota State Fair. Adding together the time spent thinking about and designing this quilt, finding the fabrics and actually making it, the 43 1/2" square wallhanging took one year to complete.*EDIT: November 5th 2006: I'm happily surprised to have this quilt featured as a DD.
Many thanks to ~MN-Vixen for suggesting it and to `dedredhed for featuring it.

Wow, wonderful work! I'm not surprised it won first prize. Congrats on the DD too I've done a little bit of quilting/patchwork myself so I can imagine the amount of work that must have gone ito a masterpiece like that!
I also have a purely technical question. How did you manage to get such a great photo of it? I'm almost as impressed by the that as I am by the quilt! I've got a few blankets that I crocheted a while back and I've been trying to get some decent photos of them for ages, but they never come out well. There is always something out of focus and lighting the whole thing properly is also problematic... meh, I'm a crafter not a photographer. Can you give me any tips?

Thanks so much for the compliments and the fav on my quilt!
This quilt hangs on my wall all the time. All I did to photograph it was to grab a digital camera and shoot. Literally, that's all. I don't know what else to tell you! Sorry. Good luck with your next try

I appreciate the look and the comment on this. I'm not quilting these days but I'm sure I'll get back to it at some point. Fractals have captured my total interest right now.
The fav is like a pat on its little fabric head! Thanks

Sorry.
I can also tie my own shoes, climb stairs all by myself, pick out my own clothes and remember my phone number. On a really good day I can walk and chew gum at the same time, too.

Thanks. I love this quilt. If you read any of the comments, you know that it hangs above my couch all the time. It's more saturated in person and the quilting is much more evident; the quilting adds alot of depth to the piece, for sure. I wish I could have made the quilting show up better in the photo, but the colors and the design are good and that's what mattered most to me.
Thanks so much for the on this.

Your so welcome, I absolutely love it. I thought it was a fractal at first and upon finding out that it was a quilt made it even more amazing to me. Do you still do quilting? Would love to see more!

I haven't touched a quilt in more than eight months now. It's too bad, too, because I have one in progress on my design wall that only needs two more blocks to finish the top. It would proably take me a week to finish, but I just can't muster up the interest; I'm too absorbed by fractals to care. I have thousands of dollars worth of fabric, an expensive sewing machine and a special table for sewing and I don't go near any of it. How silly is that? I don't have shots of all my quilts, and don't have anything as wonderful as this one, anyhow. This is my baby.

I go through those stages too where I may get burned out if I do too much of one thing so I totally understand. When and if you do go back to your project, and I'm sure you will you better post it!

The thing that amuses me the most about dropping this particular project so close to the end, is that I really like the quilt. I fussed and tweaked and got all the little things just right. It's even trickier in some ways than Postcards, and I took my time to get it right and now it's just hanging there...mocking me, laughing.
I can hear it.

If you're a quilter, look at the block and think Drunkard's Path. It's not an original pattern and I've got a link to the website of the woman who came up with the idea.[link] It's a bit difficult, but if you go slowly, it works out.

I'm sure it will hit you again one day when you least expect it, but then I love fractals and can see why they are soooooooooooooo intriguing!

It better hit me again...I've got a quilt in progress hanging on my design wall that's been there for six months in the same condition: it only needs two cornerstone blocks in the last border and then the top is finished. How silly to stop so close to the end, huh?

I have a top that is done, only needs backing and binding with the hand quilting on it....might take two weeks, but what am I doing? that's right! I'm playing on the com!
