Description I'm proud to be part of the Topo Copy Expo - Risografia project, organised by El Topo and Sam Scarpulla, that opened the DOK area in Gent. A fantastic party place in the docklands where all kinds of artists go wild in empty factory buildings and even a newly built arena.

They asked a bunch of talented people ( amongst them Ephameron, Jan Van Der Veken, Zosen, Thierry Jaspart, Mark Goss, .. ) to make a 2 color-print and this is my addition to the risograph series. It's for sale and limited to a series of 100 signed prints.

Jangojim is my pseudonym as an artist.

That's really quite delightfully funny c:
Geography teachers the world over should use this to educate people about volcanoes. I'm sure I would have learnt a lot more in geography if that had been the case.

ha, thank you ! yeah, maybe that's a good idea to make it educational.
I'm gonna make the world's first dirty geography book

Tof! En leuk dat je hem hebt ingezonden voor Lets Swap It. We hebben hem geaccepteerd hoor. We wachten even tot alle 5 onze ruilers bekend zijn, en dan sturen we alles op.

thanks ! yeah, actually, limitations are often good, because they force you to think differently.

I love it! The lever and the pterodactyl are especially nice touches.

thx, man ! I wanted to keep it simple, because it's the first time I tried the 2 layer technique for a print ( and it was actually a bit complicated for me )
in retrospect maybe there could've been some more detail, but I'm happy with the results.

Why is it complicated? How does it work?

well, it doesn't look that way and I have to admit the design is fairly simple, but I had to come up with a drawing and then think of how the drawing would come out in 3 colours, printed in two times, a red and a blue layer of ink. red, blue and brownish where the red and blue colours overlap. I wasn't sure yet when I started drawing it, so still experimented in photoshop.

I drew the red parts first and then the blue parts on another paper. I assembled them together in photoshop and it took me some time to clean up, match the pieces and finetune everything. I guess you could also draw just everything on one page and then put everything in different layers in photoshop, but I did it my way . for my recent woodpeople ( rockabilly style ) I worked in a similar way with a silkscreen style a little bit, but I did use the whole drawing and altered it digitally. a lot faster!

Thank you very much for the detailed explanation. It sounds like a very complicated and challenging process, though it's quite fascinating as well. In a way, it forces you to think like a chess player, anticipating your next move and the long-term consequences of it, which quenches your spontaneity but forces you to think about every single detail. Well, obviously, you managed to make it work.

thx ! and no problem. I really really advice you to make a piece with different layers like this. it's not superdifficult, but it has a huge impact on how I think right now about composition and producing a piece and I think it's gonna prove me handy in the future.
exactly, it forces you to think like a chess player, well said !

if it ilustration comment/inspiration to eruption vulkan on iceland?
extra work draw/colours/subject ! what technik do you used to made this print?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

laresistance In reply to szysz-szysz [2011-06-20 11:27:26 +0000 UTC]

It's not a direct comment or inspired by the eruption on iceland, I just like volcano's and dinosaurs .
I did not make the physical print, but it's a risograph. a risograph is printed by a risograph printer.
It's like a normal printer, but you add one ink jet ( red ) first and print what's red. then you change the ink jet into a blue one and print again on the same paper, now the blue layer.
where the blue and red overlap a brown colour appears.

thx mate ! Hedof is cool, thx voor compliment . En dat snap ik, het is een manier van water of rook tekenen die wel vaker terugkomt in street art of illustratie tegenwoordig, maar die ik ook enorm tof vind.
