haha, good one ! thx, man !!
I'm thinking of redoing this comic in a better-drawn and better-coloured version.
and I also think it would be a good idea for a little animated short

greetings from the land of successful pop music. I always use my standard thank-you-comment when people fav my things. It's not very personal though..
I've been to the land of chocolate once! by pass in Brussels.

hee hee, so true ! and also of Pippi Langstrump, Ikea, Abba, Ingmar Bergman, beautiful nature and people ( and I can confirm, because I've been to Sweden 2 times
), and so much more than those typical clichΓ©-characteristics of course. I love your language for example.
ow yes, standard comments, I understand completely . It's very hard to always comment personally. But I try to do that. I have a few standard quotes that I change every time. Like, "greetings from the land of chocolate", I always look at people's galleries and try to feedback on their work. The internet is already very impersonal and deviantart sometimes tends to dig its own grave.
oo, nice you passed by in Brussels. Brussels has its pretty and interesting places, but you have to know them. Some places you don't want to come by .

The place I remember from Brussels isn't a nice one. We made a stop at a really worn down restaurant in the outskirts. and the food tasted really bad.
since you like Sweden so much and I'm from Sweden maybe you could help me out with a tiny problem. In return I will send you a beautiful Swedish song!
The problem is my avatar. I want to change it, but I can't seem to make any file as small as 15kb witch is the maximum file size. could you help me out by explaining? I use PS. pretty please <3

ow damn, sad to hear you're experience wasn't a great one. It's always striking I think that one bad experience in a country kind of counts for the whole and everyone in it. But it doesn't surprise me, I have a love-hate relationship with Brussels. I'm from Antwerp and I prefer my city
oo, Swedish songs, yes, I'd be delighted. I'm also looking forward to visiting your wonderful country again some time, because I kind of miss it. So many great memories of Sweden..
15 kb is not much indeed, but it's possible of course. any picture you have, try to scale it down to the size of this avatar, or as little as possible:
image > image size
also, what can help is saving it for the web and adjusting the file size.
file > save for web and devices > adjust the size (quality) at the right. the amount of kilobytes can be seen at the bottom left. press ok.
I hope this helps. If not you can send me the file through mail and I'll scale it down for you if you like. (my email is on my profile page ) good luck !

Haha. I really like this
It does remind me of the elephant man, John Merrick?
Such a cute style, Clever story too!
I like the twist at the end,
How he's 'normal' in the house of mirrors (:

laresistance In reply to Kirdiegurdycustard [2009-05-12 10:21:36 +0000 UTC]
It is no straight reference to the elephant man, but of course it reminded me of him too. As a kid I always thought: what's this? John Merrick doesn't look like an elephant at all !!
It's more of a reference to the ancient freak circuses. really fascinates me. thanks for the compliments ! they go again straight to my compliment-machine.
I prefer this twist in the narrative, because it has something tragic and comic in it somehow.

I thought that too, I've never understood why they call him that.
your welcome :]
It adds more meaning to it,
makes him more real.

laresistance In reply to Kirdiegurdycustard [2009-05-12 17:47:14 +0000 UTC]
His mom was attacked by an elephant when she was 4 months pregnant. But that's not why he's called like that, oddly enough.
They thought he suffered from "elephantiasis" (severe thickening of the skin), which is also not why he's called like that, oddly enough . apparently he suffered from prometeus syndrome, which causes extra deformed skin to grow. It's called after the Greek God Proteus, who could change his shape. The elephant reference probably refers to his large facial tumors and greyish rough skin that make his head look like the head of an elephant.
thank you wikipedia

Very nice. I wonder if that's what actually happened to John Merrick, the real elephant man.

laresistance In reply to bobbymono [2009-05-11 23:39:20 +0000 UTC]
thanks Bobby ! I wonder what happened to him, yeah, but I think I saw one of his relatives on my bus a few weeks ago.
The problem with people that have pretty unusual or deformed features is that I'd like to sit in front of them and sketch them, and tell them how fascinating and great they are. There's always that something that keeps me staring, which is pretty annoying and probably impolite for them, but I guess it's only human I'm naturally interested and curious about nature's twists n turns.
Great movie, by the way, "the elephant man".
