i know! it's was the first and only time i have ever seen them! I was so happy that I managed to get a rather decent photo of such specimen, it's too impressive

Absolutely beautiful creature! But do they not have scales on their wings?

larihoops In reply to thehurricanes [2010-03-07 14:39:29 +0000 UTC]
I think they have "full" wings but that transparent region has thinner layers or something which allows them to camouflage better
thanks for stopping by!

You're welcome.
Are they transparent so they aren't so easily found? But they also have colors around the transparent region.

yeah it's very complicated xD but i red somewhere that it helps them to "hide" from predators
they're called Glasswing butterflies (greta oto) if you want to know more about them

I know they are Glasswings, but we don't have these beautiful species here. Thanks.

You are very welcome!
It took me some time till I discovered the group system (previous clubs) here on DA... But it really helps you to expand your audience..
I submitted 4 pictures to groups yet and my most popular photo now has 66 favs (before it had ~ 40) and my 2nd one has now 31 which had 12 before..
I know that isn't yet an amazing amount but it's a beginning

larihoops In reply to Toothrot [2010-01-18 15:02:54 +0000 UTC]
yes i know what you mean, i've joined a couple of groups and it's been great showing the photos and getting feedback from it (and favs )
This one in particular, had its success without the groups, only through journal features, and that was really awesome

Always nice to know where interest has come from - occassionally an older dev gets a lot of attention and you don`t know why!
