Just a note : I love your paintings, but I cant understand why those frames xD...really, why dont you use a simple thin black glossy frame , would be much more nicer...sry if you dont like the critiqe

I know..they do tend to be a bit over the top...I just can't help myself. I used to just use metal sectionals, i don't think I can stop myself from doing this shit...

AMAZING. The painting is wonderful, and as always your frames just wow me every time. Do you hand-make them?

thanks!
yeah...well, basically...I start with a plain wood frame and the rest is all black magick.

Well, THAT explains it.
Seriously, though, I'm really curious as to where artists like you and *kuksi get some of your materials, like the face you used on the top of this frame. Is it just a painted doll's face or something? I'm a sucker for weird miniatures, especially ones that look like people or faces.

Kuksi, I can't speak for. that guy's a genius.
this face, though, i sculpted it myself in fimo, made a silicone mold of and poured hot glue into, painted it black and drybrushed gold. same with the ammonites. when i have greater resources I'll be doing it with a lot of my small sculptures rather than just including tiny originals every time.

Ah, cool, good to know. I used to play with Fimo and Sculpey for a while, but never seriously. You're clearly MUCH more knowledgeable about it than I am Thanks for the reply! I'm always curious about what materials artists are using to get their effects, especially people who use a lot of sculptural components, because I know virtually nothing about 3D art OR how to make it...

yeah, they're adorable...one of only a handful of amphibians that retain their gills through adulthood, i seem to remember, which makes them pretty special...
