This is really good it remind me of some of my work, you probably weren't going for this but I use this common theme of eve and the serpent representing deception. Really good though!

Any intention to use biblical symbolism, or simply a painting of a woman and snake (or goddess and subject.....)? I'm assuming the goddess is the snake. I've read small bits about snakes being associated with ancient goddess figures, possibly being turned into the whole Eve and the snake story. In any case, this is a really impressive piece, as always. I feel like I can actually tell what the snake's skin would feel like by looking at it. Though I realize it's disrespectful to pet a goddess......

thank you!nope, no bible reference here...my inspiration for this predates judeo-xtianity by a few thousand years...hell, consider the snakes origin and make it about a hundred million...
and it's polite to wait until a goddess asks to be petted

It has the look and feel of an old master work illustrating an ancient tale of Grecian mythology. This is perfection!!!

Wow Larkin, I love the mood. I would hang this in my home, if I had it to hang! (Let me know when you do a raffle or whate'er it is you do to clean out your house.) The detail is wonderful, but it's the mood and environment that really grab me. I have a question for you: is there a particular reason you have chosen to use a essentially monochrome color scheme? I see it a lot in your work, so I'm guessing it's a style choice, rather than "blast! full out of yellow, just a glob of red and dab of blue left to me name. I'll be doin' this'n in purple, seems." (No I don't really picture you with a English-appalachian 'you-ins' accent, that's just how they're speaking in my head today).

well, thanks!
i used to do momochrome because it takes less time(this didn't) and i still do to cast a mood that is rare in fully colored work (particularly the way i abuse color):to limit the mood cast by color to keep things less confusing, to narrow the emotional spectrum to exactly what i want a piece to say...by broadening that in color work i think it conveys a greater variation of emotional response (of course subject matter does that too, but what the hell)basically i wanted this piece to portray humility and recognition to ancient mystery above the limits of self, if only for a while. and i wanted that display of glad genuflection to be somewhat somber to achieve a certain degree of decorum/formality without the aid of clothes, leaving it more natural and primal. and therefore a bit more honest.
and thanks for the fav!
by the way, you're welcome to print this out if you want...kinko's will do it pretty cheap, i hear.

I figured you had thought it out, very interesting explanation, it offers new insight to this piece and so many others. It's nice to see new angles and depth to your work.
I might just print this, but you know, you spoiled me with those drawings, so a print may only remind me that the original is far away.

well...maried life and working three jobs to suport my family has left me littel time to hang out here, so IΒ΄ve missed a lot.
You only piss me off anyway...Your work just makes me want to give up painting (of course, I donΒ΄t find much time for i anyway, of late)...
Your talent shames me.
This is awesome, as per usual, as is all of your work...
Stop it.
Well, okay, donΒ΄t stop.
As much as it shames me, your work also inspires me.
Glad to see that your still cranking out this awesome stuff.

oh, poppycock! your work is excellent, and it's only understandable if your considerable responsibilities keep you from painting sometimes...after all we must do what we must do.
and thank you!
