Description Hi Everybody!

(For Part 2, click here ).

(There is no sound)

This is a draft of the first episode of this series I'm working on. Please let me know what you think! Based on your comments, I plan to make more episodes. Also, I'm looking for collaborators, so if you're interested, send me an email at larkinheather@gmail.com

The episode is almost 10 minutes, so I broke it into two parts to make it easier to download.

Suggestion: flip the action when she emerges from the cave so that her movement runs left-right, to match the action of subsequent cuts, as well as the right-left action when she returns.

It's a lot of work, but the basis seems solid so the remainder should look damn fine. Can't wait to see how it comes out!

Oooo good point! I hadn't noticed that. Thanks for catching that. And thanks for watching!

I'm still working on changing that story, so the final product for that story will probably be very different!

I'm also working on an animated short [link] to submit to film festivals and stuff. Hopefully I'll have animatics to show for that soon! I'd love your comments on those when the time comes.

Sure thing.

The only other suggestion I would make is that the pacing be as trim as possible... every ounce of fat must be cut, ruthlessly, because the work load is heavy enough as it is and it's rare that slow pacing works more effectively than fast (especially these days). If a cut doesn't advance the plot or reveal something about character or setting, then it's probably better to trim it down or remove it entirely.

Got it. I agree. I think i understand that better now than when I was doing that animatic.

Thanks again!

I love that even in its rough state with no sounds it still effectively conveys the story. I can't wait to see the completed version, that's for sure!

larkinheather In reply to Miyako13Lee [2010-06-15 02:13:47 +0000 UTC]

Thanks a lot!! I worked on the writing and the storyboard for a long time ... but the actual animatic only took like a week. Then, the nice shots at the beginning took about three days each.

Thanks for watching and commenting!!

no problem ^^ i really like your animations! Hm, that doesn't seem too long, but you probably had to work for long hours, right?

Awwww wow, your animation and style is absolutely stunning O_O Everything is so fluid and so professional looking...Do you seriously do all this from scratch by yourself? Wow...The characters are really endearing too. I love how that monkey chappy totally GRINS after the suggestion of the story, in the way that monkeys just grin for seemingly no reason at all. You've really brought life to your characters. I would most certainly love to see more of these! Best of luck to you.

I really love the tree sequence too, awwwwwwwwwww...It has a real charm, the way you make the characters move. It really fits the story and gives it a fun and believable edge... I really hope you go far with your animations <3 This totally deserves at least a Daily Deviation award thing. Your animation is some of the best I've seen, especially on Deviantart. Keep up the brilliant work <3

This is amazing! What did you use?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

larkinheather In reply to joananlivedhere [2010-06-08 21:37:59 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I used Flash 8 for most of it. I did the more rendered parts in the beginning with: Painter/Photoshop for painting the backgrounds, Toon Boom for the animation, and Flash for composting.
