I forgot to say about this au, The Government do legal experiments on/with people with "Magical Aura." But if anyone or any other organization (without government permission) is illegal (Project Ghost is an example of that) Project Ghost is unfortunately an illegal experiment. He was also taken away from his family at a young age too, (with out permission too. RIP.) He was at least a teenager, and he was friends with Johnny Toast. (Johnny Toast's side of the story in this out of nowhere, random, au is an interesting one, kinda working on it still though. )
The thing is about outside organizations, even if they're big and rich, they don't know the proper (and/or legal) way to PROPERLY perfom experiments with the... let's call them "Aura Humans." (it works. and makes sense.) Even though they're called "Aura Humans," they don't treat them like humans. BUT THE GOVERNMENT DOES. THE GOVERNMENT'S (mostly) GOOD FOR ONCE!

Eventually Ghost does escape, you see that black spinel-needle thingy stabbed through the Collar. It happened when he had a huge meltdown and there was some destruction, and he was able to escape because of that and his
collar was disabled.
