Lovely urban shot; city lights in the night are always pleasant from a distance. Β

Wow, just... wow. I love the moon rise, it looks always so big and often red. You captured this one certainly very well. The moon looks stunning, nearly bigger than the sun with how he peeks so big over the buildings. And the lights from the rest of the city enhances the beauty of the photo perfectly. Well done photo, well deserved DD, congratulations!
Sincerely

I took it from Alki Beach, across Elliott Bay from the city. Thanks!

Actually, your moon was probably just as big.Β In this case it's not the moon that's big but the city that's small. That's because this was shot from three miles away, over a body of water (Elliott Bay), using a 400mm telephoto lens.Β Moving three miles away makes the city smaller but has no real effect on the moon. So when you zoom in to bring the buildings back to a decent size, the moon becomes huge.Β I'd always heard of this telephoto lens "compression" concept but only recently thought it through to understand why it happens.Β Thanks!

One problem with all the power we now have, you never know if it's real or imagined. Β
