I swear to uphold and defend the Constitution of the Federation against all its enemies on or off Terra, to protect and defend the Constitutional liberties and privileges of all its citizens and lawful residents of the Federation, its associated states and territories, to perform, on or off Terra, such duties of any lawful nature as may be assigned to me by lawful direct or delegated authority, and to obey all lawful orders of the Commander-In-Chief of the Terran Service and of all officers or delegated persons placed over me, and to require such obedience from all members of the Service or other persons or non-human beings lawfully placed under my orders - and, on being honorably discharged at the completion of my full term of active service or upon being on inactive retired status after having completed such full term, to carry out all duties and obligations and to enjoy the privileges of Federation citizenship including but not limited to the duty, obligation and privilege of exercising sovereign franchise for the rest of my natural life unless stripped of honor by verdict, finally sustained, of court of my sovereign peers...

Biography
A rising star in the cadre of the new Terran Federation Marine Corps recruits, Jonathan Shepard came from a family with strong military traditions, both his parents were ship captains. In his early childhood, he was raised on the Terran Federation top secret naval base at Sanctuary, although he has also experienced life on various other ships and stations, including the Citadel due to the nature of Shepards family's jobs as Naval officers, transferring posts to different locations, never permantly in one place.

In their parents' footsteps, he and his sister Johanna enlisted for Federal Service at the age of 18, although both initially stated the Navy as their main preferences, due to Jane's lower skill set and lack of compulsion, only John was admitted for Federal Service as a Marine Corps recruit for the Navy while Jane ends up as a K-9 Corps recruit in the Army. He would go on become one of the most decorated Terran war heroes throughout his tenure as a Federal Marine trooper in the First and Second Batarian Wars.

Notes: In order to make the Federation looks less fascist, I have decided that the Terran military personnel of the Army and the Marines in the stories would have worn something more like East Germany uniforms whereas the Navy is using whites like NATO and modern day JMSDF. Hence there will be some differences than the ones from the movies and the Roughnecks cartoon.
Also unlike default M/Shep, the Shepard in our stories are based off Mark Meer real apperance, as he was supposed to fill the tropes of an everyman and a Heinlein's competent man with a more mundane looks in this case.

And as you can guess by their descriptions, both are Spacers, but how would their lives diverged would be up to the future chapters to decide, so stay tuned.
