With the success of the Eros class destroyer and the Aimz class destroyer leader, the systems federation approached straw industries again for a new class of ship. The specifications where simple, a ship capable of defending the federation against any treat and could go toe to toe with other nations strike cruisers.
Straw industries drew up several designs for the consideration of the systems federation navy, the final decision was the Northampton class strike cruiser, a design that featured a large missile broadside for her side. As a prototype was constructed, it was feared she was lacking in her bow armament. With so many ships in other nations being equipment with torpedo’s, it was clear that torpedo’s would become the new main bow armament, for that reason four torpedo’s were installed the bow, with that, her axial gun was reduced in size, but would still be effective on larger ships.
Designed both as a predator for small lance ships, she is equipped with sizable main guns, and with a support role in mind for line ships, her defensive guns and counter missile salvo is very impressive for a ship of her design. This caused problems in her design and the guns needed to be placed a mid ship for better hull strength, this resulted in a new bridge to be design, lowered and moved further back, but not so far back to obstruct the recovery bay at the top of the ship.
With the extra mass generated by the strike cruisers size and weapons systems a new mag drive system was developed that greatly increased her speed and agility, so that she could keep up with the smaller lance ships.
C and C welcome

I love this design! It has inspired me to create some designs reminiscent of "Chronicles of Man" ships.

Thanks for the comment.
Glad it has inspired you, if you are interested you should join CoM and create your own nation.
I look forward to seeing some of your designs.
