Veronica is TimeRift's daughter (in the future, canonically speaking). Due to being the daughter of TimeRift and TimeRiftette, both who have powerful magic, and because of TimeRiftette's somewhat unnatural origins... Veronica inherited highly dangerous and highly unstable magic. TimeRift learned about this ahead of time by running into Veronica when she was older (it's complicated), and kept it a secret from TimeRiftette for a long time. When he told her, they decided that they would simply wait things out and hope for the best. On her 5th Birthday, Veronica's powers went out of control and she was sucked into a time vortex, and was lost to time.

Being lost in time is more complicated than it sounds. Specifically, anywhere from 30 minutes to several hours, she would get randomly transported to another timeline/dimension, in a constant loop of getting sent to random places. Unlike normal time travel, only 1 of her existed at a time. If she went somewhere, and then left, and you time traveled to the time she was there, she wouldn't be there anymore. She also could never return to the same time more than once. This prevented her from getting attached, being relaxed, or even making friends. She stayed like this for a little over 10 years, which hardened her emotions and left her empty and depressed for a long time. It wasn't until TimeRift teamed up with future TimeRift to break the curse that she was able to return to some sense of normalcy (it's also complicated, but I don't have time to tell the full story).
