Description
commission for my best friend georgieedit!!!!!: major improvements made, georgie took a photo of this and it came out better than the eaten scanned version so i edited that and put it up here.... ssooooo much better now! although still not as good as the original
first ever colour realism piece, and look! it's finished, yey!
does anyone remember this lol i started it back in November last year i think, and i just remembered yesterday i hadn't finished it and i actually had some free time for a change!
- time taken: about 6 hours i think overall
- tools: faber-castell colouring pencils ... and my hand! edited in photoshop cs2 after being eaten by my scanner.
- size: bit smaller than A4, can't be bothered to measure it, i don't own a ruler XD
- ref picture with permission: [link]

thankyou soooo much!!!
thanks
surprisingly i didn't find it that hard! i thought i'd struggle seeing as it's the fist time i've done something like this, but i highly recommend it lots of fun. the only reason i think i haven't tried something like this before is because i thought it'd take too long (which it didn't) and scanners totally eat colour DX but luckily i got to use my friends really good camera so it didn't come out as bad, but i still had to do a LOT of improving on photoshop afterwards which is a bummer

yey, people remember it
thankyou so much, yeah the colouring was quite difficult to get right and it took sooo long! i only actually used about 3 different colours for the fur, i think it would have turned out better if i had better quality pencils, i think i'll buy some once i get some moneys!

Of course I remember it, You worked really hard on it!
All your effort seriously paid off though!
Have you thought about selling prints?

yey i did i did
i'm so happy how it turned out *grins*
thanks so much
hhahaa noo way, i don't think my work's good enough to sell yet, and i don't think pictures are that easy to sell online, it'd be easier in my local area. i've had an idea for when i finish school in a couple of months i'll have loads of time free so i could try advertising some pictures at a local vets and offer to draw pet portraits for people.... just an idea, but it might work. what d'you think?

wow, it looks so amazing! it is a lot better, you put more contrast into it? how do you make the fur texture? it looks so soft. i can never draw fur like that, there's no flow or floofiness in mine. good job!
π: 0 β©: 1
last-trace In reply to volchyonok [2008-03-16 17:28:31 +0000 UTC]
thanks, yeah, i got my friend to take a picture of it with her amazing camera and it came out looking so much better than the scanned version! i then increased the contrast and added some flecks of white in there using the linear light tool in photoshop as well as the colour burn tool to further improve the contrast
my scanner ate the other version and so much detail was lost DX but it's much better now
the fur texture is all individual strokes, continuously resharpening my pencils, takes a long time, but it's worth it in the end

mmm, i see. but don't the pencils get short really fast that way?
π: 0 β©: 1
last-trace In reply to volchyonok [2008-03-16 21:28:04 +0000 UTC]
lol yeah! reeeeaaallly fast!! it'd be good if i had mechanical pencils, then i wouldn't have to sharpen them.
it'd look really scratchy though if i hadn't sharpened the pencils that often. i needed the point of the pencils really fine to do each strand of hair see

errrmmm... hang on i'll check (room is suck a mess... struggling to find them)....
aha! they are faber castell... i think these are like the cheapest you can get
but i use derwent pencils for grey black and white pictures

volchyonok In reply to last-trace [2008-03-16 23:24:08 +0000 UTC]
mmm, cool! i use the regular 0.5 mechanical and HB pencils for sketches and for coloring i use prismacolors. i've never heard of the brands you use...

last-trace In reply to volchyonok [2008-03-16 23:27:43 +0000 UTC]
prismacolours!! aren't they really expensive?!
hehe well the colour pencils i use are quite bad but derwent pencils are quite well known i thought, very good quality they are
π: 0 β©: 1
volchyonok In reply to last-trace [2008-03-16 23:37:21 +0000 UTC]
well, actually, i only started to use Prismacolors pretty recently, i got them for christmas. i only use them for really special pics. for regular ones, i use regular, i-don't-know-what-brand coloring pencils.
