Description conceNtrate - Variations on a Scene

I experimented with depth of field once again, inspired by this great image: [link]

This is what came out. Eight rectangles of a scene, taken with different depth of field each.

Very cool! A bit like shifting your eyes in and out of focus.
I really like your ideas and concepts and how you work them out - well thought of and aestetically pleasing. Curious to see more of it!

Seems this is an eye catcher. What everybody else said, etc. And much better than the piece that influenced you to do it in the first place. And I really like your avatar. That's a great graphic.

I absolutely love this shot. The idea is great. The diferent levels of unfocus and blur is really nice - crossing over the black boundaries. As you've suggested, the depth in the field and quality is excellent and works very well for this shot.
I'm rambling....and not giving you alot..but the jist is its great!

Actually I consider its execution to be a bit sloppy now after such a long time, but people seem to like it nevertheless
Thanks

What do you mean? I set black hematite beads up on a wooden table, lit them properly, then fixed the camera and took photos of them.

The location was the room next to mine.

Thanks. I will try and remake it. This one was done with my old digital point and shoot, which has manual focus but no manual shutter speed or aperture size.

Now I have a much better digital camera, an SLR. This gives me much more room to realize a shot like this in a way that suits me. If you wish I will notify you when the new version is done.

Very origonal.

I used paint shop pro for arranging the single rectangles. The only editing step on the images was adding a hint of grain. Color, blur and contrast are unaltered.

kaidovak [2003-09-11 21:32:37 +0000 UTC]

the composition is perfect... leads the eye flawlessly. It'd be good as an advertisement for somthing, with the logo in the spot where your eyes finish their journey

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lastfuture In reply to kaidovak [2003-09-11 21:37:25 +0000 UTC]

Hey that is a great idea. Taking for example a shoe, this could be a product shot where the logo which is applied on the shoe sits in one of the middle right squares.
Gotta remember that should I ever get into the situation of making an ad where this would be a suiting technique

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kaidovak In reply to lastfuture [2003-09-11 21:40:23 +0000 UTC]

it's a technique we were taught in studio and commercial art... lead the eye where you want it. you can, through proper composition, put the viewer's eyes right where you want them. (there are some techniques that i won't go into now because there are so many that take so long)

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lastfuture In reply to kaidovak [2003-09-11 21:42:23 +0000 UTC]

I learnt that in design and media technology as well, but I had never even thought about it when shooting this. Never seen this technique being used in any advert anyway.
