Description
And across the windswept plains they rode...They were the last of the Imperial Legion.
One vehicle. Four men.
One pilot, one swordsman, one gunner, and one cannoneer. The rest had been destroyed.
The windy plains were all but destroyed in the cataclysmic battle between the Imperial Legion and the Swarm, a huge body of creatures intent on destroying the Empire of Tekanomanicca. The Tekanians had dug down too deep in their search for geothermal resources. They had disturbed a lair at the center of the planet, a lair that didn't want to be found. The Swarm responded violently to the Tekanians' probing, ravaging the search party and killing everyone on board. This incident of primal slaughter sparked one of the largest wars in history. The Swarm was unrelenting in its mindless goal of slaughtering every last Tekanian. The Legion of Tekanomanicca fought valiantly in the defense of the Empire, but it was all for naught.
The Empire was in complete disorder. Once-great cities were reduced to smoldering piles of rubble. Over half of the population had been either eaten or brutally killed. Only one of the six Great Cities was still standing. It was the last bastion of the Empire, and the final objective of the Swarm. The entire Tekanian Legion was stationed there, preparing themselves for the fight that would either save their kingdom or plunge it into a hopeless future of fire and death.
The Legion marched into the plains beyond the borders of the city, and watched the enormous Swarm in its entirety advance toward them. They were outnumbered five to one. Admittedly, the Tekanians had impressive firepower, but the Swarm had vast numbers and primitive fury on its side. The last defenders of Tekanomanicca said their final prayers.
The dark cloud of the Swarm merged with the sea of Tekanians in vicious combat. The battle lasted for days, and the Tekanians began to realize that they were going to die on the very plain that had given rise to their empire.
After ten days of slaughter on both sides, the Legion had been completely eradicated. A neutral observer would see no Tekanian survivors. Only derelict vehicles were left on the battlefield, relics of an Empire that had been in its prime only days before.
Unbeknownst to the Swarm, however, four men and one vehicle had survived.
The vehicle was a large one. Back in the days when the Legion had been in full force, it was a mobile support battery. Nothing but a set of caterpiller tracks and two long-distance missile blocks, top mounted. It had full crew quarters, there was no reason to leave the craft.
The four men thundered across the desolate plains, destroying any remnants of the Swarm they came across.
Four men.
The first was the pilot of the complex, and commander of the Last Regiment of the Imperial Legion. He was Commander Alder, the last officer of the Tekanians. His squad was once a part of the support division, raining missiles down on the enemy while they were occupied with the infantry. When the Army was overwhelmed, Alder thought he was the only one left alive. He managed to escape the fury of the Swarm by hiding in the engine room of his rocket platform. The Swarmers passed over him without instant, not bothering to check a run-down machine.
The swordsman went by the name of Sikorsky, Legion infantry first class. When his company was taken out, he was left alive only due to his immense skill with an energy blade. Sikorsky was found unconsious by Alder a few days after the battle. Alder had revived his machine and was scouring the blood-soaked planes for survivors, and picked Sikorsky up, nursing his many wounds in the infirmary of the craft. Sikorsky evaded the Swarm by simply destroying any Swarmers that crossed his path, slicing his way through crowds of them, determined to take down as many as he could before he was devoured.
Sikorsky and Alder traveled the plain for days before they found another survivor. They picked up a dense metal reading on the long-range tech detectors and investigated, expecting another allied vehicle. Instead they found one man, walking alone in the desert. The abnormally large metal reading was caused by the huge, experimental Gunpack on his back. The Gunpack was a new machine developed by the R&D department designed to provide heavy support fire without the use of a mechanical vehicle. Two massive railguns unfold from the pack, capable of firing the destructive equvalent of 50 caliber rounds without the use of a turret. These packs were only issued to a very few members that were physically capable of withstanding the heavy recoil.
The Gunpack wielder was plodding along slowly, hardly aware of his surroundings. Alder and Sikorsky brought him aboard instantly, and asked his name. He called himself Jack.
The fourth and latest member of the Last Regiment of Tekanomanicca was Granite, a frontline balistics infantryman. Granite had achieved fame in the Legion for his innovative use of a bazooka. He was a man with incredible strength, hailing from the province of Brittany. Brittany was a province of much controversy due to their experiments with Tekanian embryos. Granite was one of these, as a child he exhibited an unusual amount of bone and muscle growth. This enabled him to move faster, take harder hits, and carry more weight.
In combat, Granite wore twice the amount of body armor issued to the standard soldier. He could withstand incredible amounts of pain without incident, so he was put on the front lines. His method of combat was unique. He had tied a large blade to the front of his bazooka and used it as a melee weapon where appropriate, swinging it like a madman. He could also fire his bazooka directly at his feet, propelling himself into the air with the force of the explosion. He used this to travel across the battlefield like no other soldier.
He was found by the other three out in the middle of the plains, delirious and dehydrated, taking potshots at nothing in particular and shouting obscenities. They gave him some water and he agreed to come aboard.
These four men are now on a mission to eliminate the remains of the Swarm. They travel across the endless plains, in search of another settlement, any body of people that can send aid to their dismantled Empire, and rid the land of the Swarm for once and for all.

Whoah, you're on a roll!
I see one thing wrong:
"They were the last of the Imperial Legion.
One vehicle. Four men."
Where are the girls?
Seriously. Put a heroine in one of your stories, you always seem to have male main characters. Except for the Judiciators, where you have some ladies in there.

I've got THUH-REE heroines, in 2 stories.
Mella, Shara, AND Trianna. THEY'RE CHICKS.
And it doesn't really mean there's anything wrong with the story.

Well yes, but you need main female heroines. I don't know. I'd like it.
Wait, who is Trianna?
