5/7 - edit for some MUCH NEEDED changes to the painting.Second thesis painting of six. This one was just about finished over winter break, only to be completely painted over when I realized that it was a good example of me Failing At Painting. This is in a much better place, for all that I still have things to touch up with the hair and trunk especially, and probably elsewhere, too.

Haha, thanks. I loved how understated the horror was in the fairytale, and so tried to make the paintings be not immediately or obviously about the cut-off hands.

Yeah... it's such a throwaway line in the story - "she left with her hands bound upon her back" - but I really couldn't get over the image!

Especially since the only two people who are available to do so are her parents, both of whom were basically complicit and one of whom (her father) who actually, y'know, CUT OFF HER HANDS.

Woodruff has been kicking your ass I can tell! Although, as if I didn't already know from the horror stories. xD Her dress is so believable and soft. I bet this looks even more fab in real life (these things tend to). Where the band of the dress wraps around her waist is particularly convincing.

Yeah, I mean... as big a dick as he is, I can't deny that I'm doing better work for him now than I started out doing. GAH WHY CAN'T I JUST HATE HIM, IT WOULD BE SO MUCH SIMPLER.
Thank you, I really love how her dress came out and I'm glad it's not just me! And oh yes, the colors are so much better in person. I am good at a few things, but photographing my work is not one of them.

8D I'm glad you do! I have no idea how it came out so well, lol.
I read the Grimms' version first, so angel she is, though I got rid of the wings and the halo because they were bulky and inelegant, and would have utterly fucked the composition of the other painting-with-angel I've got in the series. I'm glad she came out well (:
LOL yes xD. In the story, she cried on the stumps and they healed cleanly, but it's way more fun to paint the clean open wounds than it would be to paint healed-over stumps.
