Description I experimented a little bit more with the colors in this piece and I think I'm starting to get the hang of painting fur this way, so I will make some original pieces instead of copying reference pictures.
I wanted to get a better idea of shading and colors before I tried coming up with my own images.
Painting this one and the wolves really helped!

The reference picture I used here was taken by Luc Girouard. All of his lynx pictures can be found here.

For someone who is struggle to draw realistic I heavily recommend you to keep practice from reference, it will make everything more easily later ;w; You can also try to draw in profile since is different to draw the fur from front than in profile.
This is more like personal thing, but I thing you could add shading and maybe light it will make the drawing more interesting to look at thanks to the contrast.

I just want to say that is a great drawing and I tough it was a photo when I first so it ^^ I specially like the details of the eyes, it gives a lot of felling to the drawing (if that make sence XD)

Yeah...
I have a lot of personal reference photos that I can use, so I might switch to those instead of using ones I find online.
I feel better doing that and it will definitely help me improve.

I was following the lighting of the original photo closely, but I agree that I could work with more contrast, so I can do that on the next piece.

Thank you! >u<
I really appreciate your feedback and suggestions!

The thing with the photos is that they do not always have very interesting contrasts (since they are generally photos taken in the middle of the day) in addition I particular feel that the colors are very opaque and that makes it a bit boring for me :0
What you can try when drawing one of the references photos is to add a more direct light and add more shading, in personal experience I think that shading is what helps to make a drawing look more realistic. Other thing that I like to use to make the colors look more "vivid" is copy the layer and put in overlay and then change the opasity.
Another thing that is helping me is to use drawings by other artists that draw realism. I do not say to copy their drawings (although that is also good practice is only if the artist gives you the permission) but if you have trouble drawing any part of the fur in particular you can see how another artist draws it to help you. You can also see their drawings to study how they use textures and light and apply it to yours -u-
Some artists that you could see and I think they will help you improve because everyone has unique styles: Servaline, Pixxus, Lazy Lampwig, Noctualis, Kepperoni and Chicken bussiness.
All these artists are in DA, again, I think you could try to see their drawings as references more than anything in the use of light and textures >.<

You're welcome : D and any time ^^

Thanks!

I think the more I practice with references, the more confident I'll feel with playing with the lighting and colors.
I need to experiment more with the filters, too. I only use overlay and multiply, but I'm sure the others can produce some fun effects as well.

I definitely enjoy looking at more experienced artists' work to try and figure out how they blended colors or where they added certain things like highlights, so thanks for the new artists that I can follow!

Thanks!
I had fun making the pelt colorful and the eyes were the reason I chose this reference photo!
