Pahto and the Valley of God 2015

7.5 x 8.5 inches. Watercolor, micron pen, prismacolor pencils, and gouache on brown-toned illustration paper.

The NE face of Mount Adams and the three waterfalls of Hellroaring canyon from the Bird Creek Meadows viewpoint, Yakima Reservation land, Washington state, USA. Venus and Jupiter in the left-hand corner. Title comes from the native Klickitat tribe's name for the Mountain: "Pahto"- and from a local botanist, Wilhelm Nikolaus Suksdorf, who in 1881 named the valley at the bottom of Hellroaring Canyon "Wodan's Vale", or "Valley of God".
