My final animation from December, 2007. The animation process itself took 170+ hours, totally excluding the 12 weeks to model and rig my squirrels. I'm glad to finally have it submitted under the film category.
This version has a DIFFERENT version of the ending than the one you guys have seen. The reason being that I -FORGOT- about a few camera shots I had rendered out until the week after I submitted this. The sound is a little wonky near the end because I had to move some sounds around to accomodate the new ending. Annie (*nekoni ) sent me a new sound file to dub over it, but it's been weeks since she sent it and neither she nor I are able to find the new sound dub, so it'll just have to rest like this for a while until either of us comes across it. When I do, I'll have to resubmit this file, since apparently you can't edit film files without having to delete and resubmit.
Man this quality is so much better than the teeny flash video I uploaded before : ) And look! You can fullscreen! I could get used to this : ))

daw that was really cute! it sort of reminded me of a Naruto and Sasuke squirrel thingy xDDD it was great though, the animation, though really boxy and stuff, had it's own style. Awesome job!

I remember coming across the comic version of this story a while ago, which I adored. So when I found this I just had to watch this.
I think the animation flows well. I've seen a few other short projects and some have fallen a little short from this one. I applaud you for your excellent work.

This film was actually inspired by a true story from back in Fall of 2002 when I came across two squirrels fighting and one threw the other from the tree. I wrote a poem about it:

Which one do you see as Naruto, and which as Sasuke? I keep hearing this Sasuke and Naruto comparison, but I very much based them on Naruto vs. DBZ when I first made my original version of the story XD

I've gotten tons of comments about them being Sasuke and Naruto. When I first submitted the animation back in September, especially. It amuses me that people compare them to Sasu and Naru. Which one represents who? I originally designed them to spoof Naruto vs. Dragonball as a random joke for DA when I took my comics class:

It amuses me that I keep hearing Naruto vs. Sasuke. I wonder if I were a Bleach fan, if people would go ahead and compare them to Ichigo Kurasaki vs. Uryu Ishida or something XD lol, I'm sure these squirrels could extend out to even more comparisons. Ahhh, amusing. XD

The gray one reminds me of Sasuke, the red one of Naruto.
I love how the squirrels suddenly had on Naruto and Goku's outfits. XD
Pretty sure you could compare them to all sorts of characters. It just reminded me particularly of Sasuke and Naruto because of the competition, of course, one being passive and the other being aggravating, and the fact that gray-squirrel still ended up sharing his nut. (Sort of like the bell test and the bento.) <3

Actually..!! I had some major problems with the zoom-in. it originally was smooth, but something went wrong in the render process, and I had to overlay the videos. I'm glad I managed to cover up the error that well though. Thanks for the comment : )

3d animation looks really hard- from what i can see urve done a marvelous job! Did u use maya? I dont think i could keep up with that program- im delving more into 2d animation at uni- all the 3d students have to master that program. *shudders* soo hard and confusing.
I hope u post some more! I really love ur work! Oh and i really love ur comic about sasuke telling naruto that bed time story! The colours were amazing! I was wondering if you used flash or photoshop?

haha. I graduated University of Michigan in 2005 with a bachelor of english degree. went to northwestern university fr grad school for one year in speech therapy. transferred out of there into school of the art institute of chicago with a concentration in 3D Animation in 2006, which I only was able to truly start last semester. I'm graduating this may. So really, I'm a 1st year 3D animation student. Nice guess though ; )

Holy god... You are way over qualified!! Youre going to have nooo problems getting a job!! Have you heard of weta? You should definatly apply to work there! I hear its more fun then work! They always came to my uni to talk about lord of the rings and irobot and all those films that the massive software were used in plus you have insane amounts of creativity and skill! Oh i still cant beleve how many schools urve been to!! You must have made so many friends!

Yourll get a job there- no problems! They were telling us that during the interviews, they can tell whether they want to hire you or not within about 3 seconds. If you have an awesome personality they can see that in there interaction with you. Lol they reckon that the biggest accomplishment of WETA workshops is that 36 babys have been produced from the workers since it was established- i dont know if that makes sense to u but its nothing discusting. lol!

oh my gosh, squirrels fighting over nuts?! i about peed myself! this was outstanding! yay for the sound too! the movements of the squirrels were really well done too! i'm very impressed! LOVE IT!
