Description
Acrylic on Canvas, 20" x 20"Some might consider Alexander and Main to be the bad part of town. It is near the docks in the heart of Vancouver's famous but frightening Downtown East Side . The thing that people don't always notice - especially late at night - is there is a real sense of community here. People know each other. You can hear them holler greetings from open windows.
Yes, the sky is a Van Gogh ripoff. I wanted to make the tones of the buildings warm and organic with vinelike city fixtures. The sky and street are colder and more unstable.

You've got your own fractal thing going in the skies and buildings you do - is it you or is it Van Gogh, eh?

Thank you (or rather, me and Vincent Van Gogh, from whom I ripped off the sky, thank you!)

Oh wow! I love this style, it reminds me of a famous painting I've seen before, but can't quite remember what it's called... e__e
Besides that I really love how you did the sky and the different textures used. It looks great.

Ha, thanks: it is vaguely reminiscent of Van Gogh's Starry Night. Well, at least the sky. The color scheme may be a bit Toulouse Lautrec. Don't really know, I swear it was unconscious!

I love how this is painted, especially the swirls in the sky and Harbour Center. Great job on this! : D

Thank you so much! I like this one (even though it's kind of a Van Gogh rip-off).

Absolutely incredible style! I find your work to be unique, yet so soothing to look at. It has the most calming effect on me. Which, if you knew me, is a very hard thing to accomplish.

wow! those streetlights are fantastic.... they look like curious, living plants stretching upward to look around at all of the strange buildings.
