👍: 0 ⏩: 1

lauren-rabbit In reply to blacklady666 [2008-01-10 14:53:41 +0000 UTC]

They are starts and the pages are from a 15th century manuscript on the constellations.
The writing on the all is something I read years and years ago that has always fascinated me:
'Scientists have discovered 12 different kinds of quarks which are distinguished by:
6 flavors
3 colours
3 anti-colour
and varying degrees of strangeness'.

If I were a subatomic particle instead of a girl I would be a quark.

if you were a quark you would be the base to build someone, in fact you would be able to maybe build someone's dreams, how would you feel with such responsability in your hands?

I cropped in camera. I'm shooting my room as is, this is what I see everyday and the light source is key. But from an objective point of view I see what you mean.

This is such an amazing concept, and I so wish I could see your house!!! The way you work with natural light, I will never be able to get over!!! Speaking of, I cleaned up my studio last night and should be finishing it up pretty soon, then I can try my shot at shooting in natural light as well. I have a ton of dolls I need to shoot

Thank you so much for the tip on shooting!!! What would you suggest if the room I am shooting in is three glass walls? Would you block any of the light, or just do what I should have done from the beginning, try, test and see???
What are the pages of, if you dont mind me asking...Being that you are so deep with your pieces, I couldnt imagine you using just something random opposed to something truly having some sort of depth to you. I bet they look even better now that they are starting to fall, almost like fairy books flying above and trying to soar but being caught by the ceiling, well at least thats how I see it...None the less, your work has so much depth and personality, something mine has always lacked. I think the only work that I truly find expresses me, for some reason, is my dolls. I think it is because I love them and they are my friends, I even talk to them while I make them and when ever I see them. I will shoot them soon and post, so you can see my friends!!!

OK, 3 glass walls is great- just watch your time of day. In winter (east coast) 3pm + is perfect light, a very warm light. 10am is a flat consistent light, no drama. Literally just sit and watch it for a few hours, bring a book otherwise you'll just be the crazy man watching the sun but watch it anyway.
The pages on my ceiling are from a 15th century manuscript on the constellations. The drawings are a trip. I decorate ceilings because when I get depressed or in trouble (like I'm currently in now- brand new tax assessment=rabbit screwed) I just lie on the floor and stare at the ceiling. I found I felt better if I was actually looking at something. No one decorates ceilings anymore but for centuries there were murals and cherubs and I like to think that King this or King that actually lay down on the floor staring at the ceiling going 'I'm so screwed' while the guillotine was being constructed next door.
Anything you put yourself into will express you. As far as the dolls-run with it. I have imaginary friends, myself. They just don't show up on film.

My god, Rabbit, you really know your stuff, and down to a science!! How did you figure about shooting times, by literally watching the sun for a couple days during the seasons? Well tomorrow, my plan is to get out one of my dolls and just setup a tripod and shoot it like every half hour, just as a test to see what the light does. Sure the pictures will be boring and lame, but its for a lesson in lighting. Thank you so much for your info...If you have any suggestions, advice, anything, please do share. I would rather someone say hey, you can fix this mistake by doing this or dont do that, rather then just say, thats great.
Tax seasons coming for you huh, to bad you cant literally make like a rabbit and hide in a hole till the monster goes away, huh. Might I ask you another more personal question, what do you do for a living? Do you do this for a living? How did you learn so much about photography?
I am sorry I havent had a chance to buy the rest of your books yet sweety, I am out of work right now and well, broke as all hell. Once my white trash ass gets back up on his feet again, I will be buying the rest of your collection and then(if its okay) I will be sending them your way to get the autographed, like I mentioned before. Damn I talk to much, sorry.

What I wrote for 'the madness is the method' is true, I've been housebound since August 2006 due to illness. I'm hoping to be free by the end of the year. I barely get by but the important thing is I do get by.
And I keep shooting.
Test everything, become familiar with where you want to shoot. And of course I understand broke as hell but I will be happy to sign whatever you send me whenever you are able.
You do not talk to much, I appreciate the time you spend looking at my work and drop me a line when you post your new experiments so I can see.

If you're only working with one window is is occasionally beneficial to bounce some of your light back on the darker side. White board works but so do mirrors. Watch for flare.
I glued those pages to the ceiling about 3 years ago and they're slowly trying to escape but none have fallen.

Love this piece.

actually love all your work in general (the calendar is on my wall, [and my mother's for her birthday] and the book as well)

it's very fitting that you should have pages of constellations as ornamentation on your ceiling
