That is part of it. Mostly because it focuses more on the subject and allows a closer bond between the viewer and the bat. The bat appears curious and his eyes are really captivating.

I see your point there, since it's expression is the main focus.
I think this bat had a habbit of sitting on that palm the whole day and watching the people walking by. I even took a shot where it was eating a pack of butter it stole from the restaurant nearby.

Would have made mine also. I posted two of my brown bat photos (not quite as colorful as yours) and it really made my day to see them. I love bats and have built a lot of bat houses on my property.

Bats are really fascinating creature, and I believe that they love the bat houses you built for them. There are also two bats living somewhere in my neighbourhood who can be often seen on summer evenings while hunting for insects. They're very graceful little things.
