Description Tick gingerly took a book off the shelf and sat down at a small table placed in the corner of his room. A bright light illuminated the table with a brisk glistening light as Tick proceeded to pensively track each word in his book, his attention focused on each passage he swept across, his face creased in concentration. But that concentration looked like a failing attempt at covered what seemed to be his binding, pent-up frustration.

Laurii watched, her head tilted curiously. She had never yet seen him look so focused before.. Heck, not even Horror had ever appeared this focused before.

She wondered what he was reading, and so she leaned in slightly to examine the book. "Oh.." The entire book was written in those strange symbols her father knew how to read.. And so she had to assume Tick did to.

She glanced over as she heard him let out a slight grumble. "*strange." He spoke, "*how'dya say ya got here again, kiddo?" He asked, sparing her a side glance, before returning his attention to the paragraph he was zipping through with practiced ease.

"Oh, well, I was just walking around Snowdin and... I came across a portal... Or well... Not really came across, more like it um... It appeared! You know, like- all of a sudden!" She explained. Tick gave a slight nod, though it slowly turned into a look of confusion displayed on his face. He scoffed, shaking his head, and once more returning his gaze to the book. "*that's strange. how in the hell can a portal just.... appear? and nothin' came through it?" He knew portals COULD appear. That wasn't surprising. But usually, something is supposed to come from it. It isn't usual for one to just be there randomly.

Laurii shook her head firmly. "No, sir." She replied. "I was kind of... Forced inside it. When I got closer to it to see what it was, it basically pulled me inside. It... It was really strong! I couldn't pull away from it!" As she was explaining all this, Tick was very urgently searching through the book, his teeth gritting with tiny beams of sweat visible on his skull.

Laurii's eyes melted into a look of concern. She hadn't ever seen him like THIS either! She didn't know what to think. Her tail swished slowly before drooping behind her.

After a moment, he had flipped through the entire book and still, no answers. He clenched his fists, growling coldly to himself. "*no dice." He smashed his face into his hands, shaking his head slowly as frustration and agitation slowly set in.

Laurii's eyes turned a slightly lighter shade of blue, and she reached a hand, resting it on Tick's shoulder. The sudden action made him flinch and glance down at her quickly. She graced him with a warm smile. "Hey, do not worry. You are doing your best to help, and that's what matters. I know you'll get me home eventually! So.. Let's not get so frustrated about it, oki?" Her smile softened and he stared at her comforting demeanor for a moment before smiling a bit.

"*you're right. i'm...sorry. i just know i said i'd help ya, and havin' trouble doin' that is.. a bit annoyin'. y'know?"

Laurii gave a gentle laugh, smiling a bit softer. "Well, you haven't tried to kill me since we met. I think that's really helpful!" She chimed. Tick chuckled again, patting her head gently. "*y'know what i mean, kiddo."

She sighed softly and nodded, glancing at the book. "I know. So, the book was no help, I take it."

Tick shut the book, shaking his head with a disappointed sigh escaping through his clenched teeth."*nope." His gaze shifted back to the bookshelf as he stood, bringing the book back to it's place. "*none at all."

He turned, crossing his arms as he rested his spine against the shelf, glancing at her with a calm demeanor.

"*let's figure this out a different way. can ya tell me what this portal looked like? anything distinctive? anything notable?"

Laurii averted her gaze, tapping her cheek as she went about trying to recall the portal in it's entirety. "Well..." She mused, shifting her gaze around, her expression more firm and contemplating. "Now that you mention it.. It was kind of... Dark? I-I mean it's color! And inside it was very weird. When I got pulled inside it... I was... Free falling? But I was free falling into what looked like an abyss. A dark, strangely cold abyss. I... I didn't like it."

"*yea, i wouldn't either." He commented, sighing once more. "*but'cha said.. dark... abyss... cold... those three distinctive features are kinda concernin'. lucky ya ended up here though - cause' i gotta tell ya, hun, normal portals shouldn't look like t h a t."

Laurii gave an understanding nod, slowly standing up from her seat, her hand tightly clenching the amulet worn around her neck.

Tick smiled calmly. "*well... hey, let's not worry 'bout that. you're a smart cookie, aren'tcha? let's just focus on gettin' you a safe passage home, yea?"

He gave her a gentle pat on the head, which seemed to brighten her spirits a bit. "Oki!" She chimed. "Oh, but... Couldn't... Couldn't YOU teleport me home?" She asked, tilting her head slightly.

His smile dimmed slightly. "*i'm sorry kiddo, i can't. i can't teleport to other au's. i don't got that kinda power. some sanses do, but i don't. we'd need... well... a portal."

Laurii's eyes widened slightly, and then she averted her gaze, exhaling calmly. "I see." She found that quite strange, however, she wasn't one to argue.

"Then what can we do..?"

Tick paused for a moment, tapping his arm as he thought to himself intently. "*well, howsa' bout' we go visit alphys? she'sa real good scientist, she might be able to help us outta this little issue and getcha back home to horror. howsa bout' it?"

Laurii stayed silent for a mere moment, contemplating the given suggestion. She had never met someone named Alphys before, but could briefly recall Horror mentioning her to her.

"Yeah. That sounds like a good idea!" She smiled.

With her confirmation, Tick gingerly swiped her hand into a protective hold and walked out of the room with her and soon, out of the house.
