Opening her eyes, the child slowly adjusted to the room's dim atmosphere. Though she felt the wetness of tears in her eyes.
Well... She wasn't surprised to have been crying in her sleep, no..
It has happened many times before, though now...
For a different reason.
Against her back she could feel a soft mattress; it rested beneath her fingertips, though notably cold to the touch. She groaned softly, sitting up as the recollection of her memories slowly flooded back, and her hand reached up to wipe those lingering tears away.
She was here,ย
with them,ย
alone.
Without any other humans
It's just her...
The room was oddly more soothing, despite the darkness shrouding over every corner. Maybe it was the silence.. Though the silence was odd to her..
Her eyes scanned over the area as she listened closely for any single sound.
...
...
...
There was nothing...
Not a single sound...
The whole room remained in dead silence, and beyond the door was no different.ย
She threw her legs over the side of the bed, having they felt more valiant after being rested. She glanced down; her brown travel-bag lied horizontally against the wooden floor. It would have only been ....what....a few minutes? Maybe a little longer...? She didn't feel like she slept for very long and yet her body felt rested.. It was strange..
She reached down, grasping her bag as a deplorable sigh slid through her teeth. She slipped the bag strap over her head, having it rest against her shoulder. Now that she was rested, there would be no point to staying in this room. She stood up, feeling the cold wood beneath her bare feet as she ambled towards the door, pausing briefly before touching the knob. What happens after this? All she wanted to do was get to the front door..and leave..it would be mean...to leave.. She was i n v i t e d in here after all... But she didn't want to worry about that right now.. Staying anywhere near S a n s was what she couldn't stand.ย
She took a deep breath, wrapping her fingers around the frigid metal knob and slowly turned it, listening as the door let out it's sonorous 'creak~'. She peeked her head out, glancing down the hall towards the staircase. It was so close yet so far.. But even so, she couldn't see a single being around, and so, she pushed the door opened some more and slipped out, keeping her attention set firmly on the staircase.
"*whฮฑt ฮฑrั ัฯu dฯรญng?"
She froze, hearing that same deep voice that chilled her bones time and time again before. She didn't want to pay him any mind..she wanted to ignore him..but..she knew it would be a fatal mistake. But what was there to say?ย
She slowly turned her head and looked through the balcony's bars. Of course, Sans was there. He was lying on the living room couch, eyeing her with an acutely large amount of suspicion. It made her feel a little more compelled to stay muted but at the same time, she didn't want him to think she was up to anything bad.. His austere gaze made it clear he didn't trust her.
She explained, though her occasional pauses didn't help her appear any less suspicious. Sans would only stare at her as if she had been blurting out unintelligible nonsense to him this whole time.. "*whฮฑt ฮฑrั ัฯu plฮฑnnรญng?" He asked, cutting his eyes if only slightly at her. "I'm not planning anything!" She stated as if she were firm on her word.
It felt like her sentences were worded thoughtlessly, as she really had no other excuse to be out of that room.. "*hm.." Sans was uncomfortably silent for a moment, taking in what she said and how she said it.. Though it didn't mean much to him. She still seemed suspicious. "*ฯk thัn."
She would think to herself, though never being able to say it for sure, she turned her attention away from him and proceeded to walk towards the staircase.
"*thัn whัrั ฮฑrั ัฯu gฯรญng?" Once more, he questioned her suddenly, not giving her a moment to think. But..she wanted to leave.. Leave this house and leave him behind. However, if she even attempts to leave Sans' suspicion would grow more..or maybe something worse may happen. She said, whilst leasurily making her way down the stairs.ย
At this rate she really couldn't get to the front door.. She mosied into the living room and slowly sat herself down on the floor, being a safe distance away from him. She wanted to believe that if she stayed within his line of sight, he would have no reason to call her suspicious. "*...ฯk thัn.."
There was an unsettling silence that slowly ensued over them, though for a moment it was more of a relief than anything. The girls fingers entertwined and she placed them in her lap neatly as she examined the room.ย
A tv, a couch, a small table.. And an open archway.. There wasn't much else, though it would feel like the atmosphere was much more unsettling looking towards the open archway as it appeared to lead into a room of complete darkness.. The child didn't like it at all, and merely turned away from it silently gazing at her hands.
"*ัฯ whฮฑt ัlัั dฯ ัฯu wฮฑnt?" Sans quizzed once more, noticing her glancing around excessively.
Each time he asked her something she felt just a little bit more tense. Anything she says could be fatal.. But remaining in silence is worse in several ways.
Her eyes would slowly meet his mere red iris as she continued to ask; "๐ ๐ถ ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ข ๐ด๐๐ถ, ๐๐ฏ๐ข ๐ถ๐ฌ๐ฒ ๐ฐ๐ฒ๐ฐ๐ญ๐ฆ๐ ๐ฆ๐ฌ๐ฒ๐ฐ ๐ฌ๐ฃ ๐ช๐ข, ๐ฌ๐ฏ ๐ฐ๐ฌ๐ช๐ข๐ฑ๐ฅ๐ฆ๐ซ๐ค ๐ฏ๐ข๐ช๐ฌ๐ฑ๐ข๐ฉ๐ถ ๐ฐ๐ฆ๐ช๐ฆ๐ฉ๐๐ฏ ๐ฑ๐ฌ ๐ฑ๐ฅ๐๐ฑ...?"
It wouldn't take him long to reply, and it felt as if every lingering word he spoke was filled to the brink with undeniable truth. She could feel it and see it as clear as day; he didn't trust humans. He didn't care about them. But really.. all humans? It didn't seem right.. Her words fell out slowly but softly. She didn't want to think he would always hate humans.. Maybe someday he would change.. But how would she know?
After finishing talking the room fell back into uncurable silence; Sans' piercing gaze was more like a look of surprise, though the silence made it feel worse.ย
....
Before she could open her mouth to say another feeble word she was taken back by Sans bursting out in an insensitively sonorous fit of laughter. It was like everything she said was nothing more than a joke to him, an unbelievably stupid one at that. She didn't want to say another word now. What would be the point? He isn't taking her seriously.ย
Eventually his laughter settled down though it didn't make her believe it meant anything good. "*thฮฑt'ั rัฮฑllั funnั cฯmรญng frฯm ฮฑ humฮฑn lรญkั ั ฯ u."ย
He told her, blankly blurting out his opinion.
The words could distintly feel like they weren't fully directed towards her.. But she couldn't help but feel a bit offended.. She hadn't done anything to him.. So to say that? Like he k n o w s her as being a bad seed.. It was more crushing than she would have liked. She narrowed her eyes a little, keeping herself as calm as she could. She wasn't in immedient danger.. But Sans' words felt more venomous than anyone else's that she'd ever heard.
As he said this so bluntly, it would seem he was recollecting bottled up memories of the past. The words felt strickened with anger though hid behind his uncannily careless tone.
As she thought this to herself she would think about what to say. Conceiving her sentence, she could tell something was on his mind..but to pry? It might not be the most clever an idea.. But being she was gifted with exceptional perceptiveness, she wanted to exceed the current level of knowledge he had her at; knowing too little.
As she paused she glanced up to notice his piercing gaze did not even acknowledge her as she spoke, he remained filed inside his own recollections. "... As soon as she finished her question, he shot his full attention towards her as if he were truly surprised by her being inextricably apt towards his vagueness. He hadn't even mentioned meeting a human and yet her question would prove that she caught onto him having done so.
Every word he spoke through gritting teeth was filled with hatred and deadly spite. It felt like every sentence was riding on his boiling anger as he reviled his recollections. She found this a bit sad ..to think he didn't want anything to do with her because a human before her broke a promise to them... It must of been a big promise for him to still dwell on it..right?
He replied bluntly.
It didn't feel right to be nothing because of something someone else did..but what could she do... Then again... Why did she come down here anyway? No, it wasn't intentional.. It was an accident... But now that she was here..it felt ...better..than being on the surface.
Saying this, she felt like a morbid being... But she had her own reasons..in a way, she felt...safer..down here..than she did up there, upon the surface.. How strange.ย
"*whั รญั thฮฑt?"ย
She became silent, slowly sliding her knees up to her chest and clenching them tightly. She didn't like talking about her life... She had nothing to hide personally.. But issues resurrected in her village, in her home.. She merely didn't want the memories to flood back. "*tัll mั. dฯn't ะฒั ัhั." He pushed it, grinning, as he could tell this topic was sensitive for her.ย
She put her head down against her knees, shielding her face away from him.
He didn't further it..maybe he just lost interest.. But it was a relief to her. Though.. The silence was too much to handle as of right now.. ๐ฆ๐ฐ ๐ฆ๐ช๐ญ๐ฏ๐ฌ๐ญ๐ข๐ฏ ๐ช๐๐ซ๐ซ๐ข๐ฏ๐ฐ." she stuttered out in a softened tone. She merely wanted to change this conversation topic to something else...anything else.. And this was the first thing to come to mind.
"*ัฮฑmั hัrั, รญ'm ัฮฑnั." He stated. She felt a little bit surprised.. He gave his name so bluntly.. She didn't even expect him to give her the first letter of his name but, why would she complain? She knew something else about him now - his name.
He said.
It felt good to hear those words.. But Laurii didn't truly know how sincere they were. But he doesn't care about her..so why would he bother lying? If he didn't agree that it was nice to meet, he'd surely say something else...right?ย
She muttered softly, feeling as if progress had been made. She asked, feeling a pinch of dread towards what she wanted to ask.
"*whฮฑt รญั รญt?"ย
For a moment..she contemplated not asking this.. Maybe she didn't really want an answer.. But even if that was the case, she has to put it aside.
The question didn't seem to bother Sans at all..his grin grew a bit. "*รญ lรญkั tฯ mฮฑkั mั prัั ัuffัr ฮฑnd ัcฮฑrัd. thัn kรญll thัm."ย

"*mฮฑัะฒั" He laughed a bit, beginning to scroll through his phone.ย
ยค
The unsettling silence ensued the room once more..the only dull sound was Sans' humming as he spinned a sharp blade around in-between his skeletal fingers. Laurii glanced around, observing the room once more, muted. She wouldn't admit it but Sans' humming was oddly enough to help her conceive what to say next. "... She let out a deplorable sigh. It was bad enough she still couldn't get to the front door without Sans' suspicion growing on her.. Now she has gone silent, unable to think of something to say to him..?
It wasn't acceptable.. She needed to ask something, say something.. Anything.. She needed to learn more. Glancing at Sans, she observed him as she had done before.. Even when at his state of ataraxy, he was still incredibly unsettling..
Laurii finally asked, though it took more courage than she had to blurt out such a question.
Sans would only pause, his grin slowly fading away. "*ฯh, รญt hฮฑั ะฒััn wฯrัั, ะฒut ัฮฑmั ัรญtuฮฑtรญฯn." He explained.
She questioned, though she didn't know if she s h o u l d be pushing it. But as long as she is getting answers she will continue to wonder.
She stated, "๐๐ฒ๐ฑ...
"*ัtฮฑrvรญng. thั cฯrั whรญch kัpt uั mฯัtlั ฮฑlรญvั ัtฯppัd wฯrkรญng."
At this point, it felt a little bit more sadder than before.. The reason behind all of this was over starvation..
Sans let out a somber sigh as if the resort they all had to come to; human consumption- actually bothered him in a way. "*ััp."
For a brief moment he went silent, making it seem as if he was dwelling inbetween his thoughts once again.. But before long, he grinned looking back at her. "*รญ mฮฑdั ัฯmั rulัั fฯr thรญั tฯwn ัฯ wั cฮฑn ัurvรญvั." He announced, changing the subject in a way.
She would mentally scorn herself for asking this.. One part of her didn't want an answer..but if the answer chills her bones in any way, it was obvious Sans wouldn't hesitate to tell her.
"*wัll fรญrัt รญั tฯ nฯt tัll thั quััn ฮฑะฒฯut thั rulัั. - ััcฯnd รญั tฯ ัhฮฑrั thั fฯฯd wรญth ฯthัrั. - ฮฑnd thรญrd รญั tฯ cฮฑpturั thั humฮฑn รญf ัััn."
Laurii felt a cold sweat run down her cheek. Just as expected; she really shouldn't of bothered asking.
Sans uttered in response.
Laurii thought for a moment- every time she began a conversation with him it always turns out to be more uncomfortable for her than how it started. Though, she valued what she was gathering from him. Sans narrowed his eye sockets, glimpsing in her direction. "*ััฮฑ ฮฑnd whฮฑt ฮฑะฒฯut hัr?" In a sense, the way he said that made it seem like he didn't care too much for discussing the Queen. In fact, in a way, it seemed like it vexed him if only slightly. Though this alone didn't deter her.

Though it feels like his pessimism just gets more and more outrageous, it felt a bit understandable.. If they one day run out of food... They will die.. But to be so pessimistic about it..doesn't fix that problem.ย
Laurii furrowed her brows, she could feel that for the first time being here she was..actually becoming indignant with him. She was nearly at her limit with his careless banter.

Distinctly she didn't like the idea of him dying of hunger or dying period..but why? This whole time he had done nothing but scare her and make her feel uncomfortable...but knowing the truth about their current anguish made it hard to not care about him.
But hearing this did not faze him, instead, he let out a sudden chuckle.
"*รญ wฮฑั lัรญng tฯ ัฯu ฮฑะฒฯut ัฯmัthรญng.."
With no context, Laurii was left having to ask; ".. .. Though inside, she didn't really want to know..and yet somewhere in her, she was compelled to ask. "*รญ ฮฑm ฮฑlrัฮฑdั dัฮฑd. ..ะฒut ัฯmัhฯw ฮฑlรญvั ฮฑt thั ัฮฑmั tรญmั."

Hearing this didn't make a lot of sense..how could he be alive but dead? But she couldn't say he was lying..she didn't truly know that and she didn't want to make him mad by calling him a liar.. She nervously fumbled out the words, though it sounded stupid for a moment to be asking that of all things. "*prัttั much." He confirmed in a careless tone.ย

The conversing continued to transpire for a while.. Though most of what Sans said was altered between mean and concerning, Laurii learned a little bit more and more each time he spoke, though maybe he didn't catch onto how much he was teaching her.
But after a while it felt like there wasn't much else to say..not much else to ask.. Though... Laurii was becoming restless.. She needed something to do now...
But what...?
If there was anything she knew better, it was sewing. She held onto a sliver of hope that there was something she could sew in here.. Sans slowly turned to her, glaring at her as if she had said the most senseless thing that she possibly could. "*uh, nฯ."
Laurii's hopes felt diminished.. Though maybe it was dumb of her to even ask that in the first place.. She couldn't help but feel extremely bummed out.. For a moment, Sans seemed to consider her despondency..she was offering to sew something without asking for anything further.
He glanced down at the large shredded hole in his shirt for a moment. "*hm, ฮฑctuฮฑllั.." He slipped his jacket off and his shirt after, revealing that all he had beneath it was bones, but that was all to be expected.. Harshly, he threw his shirt at her, causing her to throw her hands up to catch it, though flinching only slightly. "*thัrั'ัฮฑ quรญtั ฮฑ rรญp รญn ัm'."
She took a moment to examine his shirt indeptly. The rip was immense but it was nothing she couldn't handle.
"*nฮฑh."
She felt a little bit better now having something to do..something helpful.. She reached into her dress's skirt pocket where she had stored a miniature sewing kit and pulled it out. She took out a needle and some thread. As she would begin to sew the hole, she contemplated every stitch she put in..ย
Before long, she completed her sewing and picking up the shirt, she examined it for a moment. It was nearly perfect and yet she didn't know how well it would be to him..she mustered up every inch of courage she held in and stood up, slowly trailing her way over to him with the shirt clutched tightly in her hands. She trembled only slightly, handing it back to him in silence.
He grabbed his shirt and looked at it for a second..it truly was nearly perfect..much better than he expected, no doubt. He slowly looked at her; the sudden look quickly making her feel almost like she had made a dire mistake somewhere during sewing.. But before long, he grinned, though for a moment it didn't seem like a fiendish grin..was it... genuine for once?ย
