Since Pokemon Soul Silver proved out to be the best damn thing in the world of pocket monsters since the crystal version, I decided to draw something with a pokemon theme.I can't help it. There's just something really facinating about stuffing helpless little critters inside airtight capsules and pitting them in a merciless battle against each other.
Even after all these years, Haunter still owns every single Pokemon out there. Old school Pokemon for the win, and something like that.
I did the lineart with marker pencils, and the colouring with basic coloured pencils. I also used some gel pen here and there. This took me about a week to finish, and I highly recommend a full view of the picture.
I put some extra effort on the colouring, and I think it's one of the best I've done so far. Unfortunately it's still in completely different class than those done with a computer. I'm not so sure people appreciate hand drawn pictures as much as they used to.

Of course people appreciate it. Not everyone, but they know it gives the artist a lot of work and some of them don't even know/remember how to paint with color pencils.
Anyway, recently I've been seeing lots and lots of pokemon artwork here on dA because of a contest this group is holding: and as a huge fan of the series, I couldn't loose the chance to watch it and even participate in the minor contests it holds while the bigger doesn't finishes. There's a lot of trainers there. Why don't you have a look?
Your Kabutops scared me, BTW. I loved the Haunter, he's the best ghost pokemon. <3
I liked preety much the trainer and her acessories, you have such a creativity to design a clothe like that one.

I haven't actually thought about entering any contests before, but I'll check the link you gave me. It's just that my liking of pokemon is limited exclusively to the main games.
I guess people like hand drawn pictures, but they don't like the way I colour them. Just compare the favourites of my black and white pictures with the coloured ones and you'll see.
You're right. The Kabutops really ended up being quite scary. I like drawing scary looking monsters since the detail work gets to shine in those.

Don't think like that. Y'know, sometimes I just ask myself what am I doing here. All of us - apart from being tradicional or digital artists - are here to learn, to improove our techniques and show the world what we can do. There're some people that like our art, others may don't like. What can we do?
Yes, the details are the damn bastards that gives us a lot of work but eventually turn our drawings into a more beautiful thing. LOL

Honestly, THIS drawing right here doesn't even LOOk like a hand-drawn picure! I can never even DREAM of coloring like that! ^^

The problem with hand drawn pictures is that they usually end up being really grainy. Colours done with a computer on the other hand are always smooth and just about perfect...
I try my best, but I can't compete with a computer.
Yeah. Haunter is still the best. The new ones just can't compete with the first 150. Or at least that's my opinion.

There are a lot of new Pokemon I like. I just don't like the new anime series.
But Haunter still tops all Ghost-types. Gastly too, top favs.
