Fascism is a dangerously fluid ideology. It can be identified by common characteristics - I personally find Umberto Eco‘s understanding and his more simplified 14 Features List to be the best references on the subject. But it’s exact shape and nature do not belong to any one sect or denomination. Fascism will shape itself to the culture and circumstances it appears in.

American style Fascism has seen a sharp resurgence in recent years - it’s something I worry greatly about. American style Fascism has appeared, appears, and will appear, bedecked in patriotic iconography. It will speak of some imagined history, and claim itself a return to a rose-tinted past. It will support our military, our law enforcement, proclaim itself of the Christian faith, and use all of these as tools to gain, and maintain, power. It is insidious, and it’s up to us to recognize it, and the threat it poses, whenever it rears its ugly hydra-heads.

Right now, our best hope is to agitate, protest, and vote blue down the ballot come November, or earlier if you’re able. Here’s hoping 2021 will be better.
