This is my favorite knife.
Baby was originally a simple Cold Steel Magnum Kukri Machete. I was so completely satisfied with everything about the blade, so originally I just modified the sheath to sit on my back, BoE style.

Then one day, I decided it needed a better handle.
Took off the original rubber composite and started toying with different ideas, but it wasn't until a friend of mine suggest I turn it into a "Horse Knife" that I decided. I wanted a fiberglass poly handle instead of wood, so I wouldn't have to worry about breakage too much, but I wanted that sweep at the base of the handle that wasn't really available at Home Depot or anywhere, till I found this magnificently cheap axe (because the head was terrible) but it had the perfect handle. Brandon (the friend that suggested the horse knife) wanted to do the project for me, since he makes most of the melee weapons for our group. After a very sweaty and messy ordeal cutting off the axe head and splitting it to receive the full-tang handle, over several days, things were discussed.

Long story short: After only about $50, we finished it. Metal braces on either side reinforced the security of the two bolts that were threaded through. The plastic outer of the handle was melted down at the point of connection to fill in any gaps and sink the metal bracing plates in. The yellow handle was wrapped in friction tape (Usually used on things like Hockey sticks) leaving only the bottom and the bolts exposed. The originally black blade was given a good coating of black metal bonding paint, then we cleaned off the paint on the sharp end.

Viola! Now, the big problem is how to attach it to my gear.
