Description
Saw the new Conan movie recently, and gotta say I actually liked it. Yes it's a far cry from the Schwarzenegger ones in years gone by which I didn't really like anyway, but I'm a fan of the books by Robert E. Howard so I had to do this piece by Marcio Abreu when I saw it.....hmm most of the Inks I've done have been by him come to think of it....ohh well, if he doesn't complain then that's alright with mePencils by Marcio Abreu [link]

I'm a huge Robert E. Howard fan and you did his character justice, not like Ahnold

Nice work! Great level of detail. I like the way you left out the pupils of the eyes; gives Conan a more menacing look.

Thank you very much. That was the main detail that attracted me to cover this piece.

Hehe, no probs dude, kinda figured as much. I will redo this piece again I think. But for now will leave this version up as I'm welcoming any critic and tips that people have to give, may remove it.

You know the ink work is really strong, yet I did notice some changes in the line work from the original pencils, I c that you are humble enough to take critics to improve also your stuff is getting to a pro level with each new work.

Cheers, I've always been of that mindset, it's better to be humble and take advice from the people that know what's going on and learn from the mistakes your making or you won't advance much further without a little help. This piece was a bit rushed, and I do see the changes myself too now. But I have been paying proper attention to what you've sent me

Marcio does great work. These inks are all done with markers and not well. Learn your tools. There are NO thin to thick lines in this. At risk of sounding like an asshole (editor) in other words. Your inks are not of professional quality. Marcio is a nice guy and he will probably put your inks on his page favorites but these inks just are not quality. PM me if you want some tips on how to be better.

Hey no problems on sounding like that. You know your stuff and thanks for your critic, I'll definetly take you up on your offer for tips.

Get yourself a Windsor-Newton series 7 number 2 brush first. There are certain lines that a marker just can't do. They are about $20 each but will last a long time if you keep them very very clean. Once you have one of those let me know and I will teach you how to clean it properly so you get your money's worth.

Cheers I'll look for one. I have water colour brushes of that size alright but no sable ones, and just found my hand not steady enough for em so have so far prefered to stick with pens and not brushes.
I don't use markers, or do you class pens and markers as the same?

Your hand will learn to be steady. Trust me on this. I felt the same way the first time I picked up a brush and tried to ink with it. Now the brush is the tool I have the MOST control with.

As a fellow inker, I had to give props on this great rendition. I inked Marcio's work awhile back.

Be careful not to change the trace of the artist.
Put your style, but always follow faithfully the hatches
It has many features there,
I have not done this way.
Continue to evolve.
Congratulations.

Ahh yes I see what you mean about the hatches now. Thank you, I will follow that more closely in future. It's given me a different way of looking at hatchings from what I had been doing. I see now the details of contures and things that I've missed upon looking back at the origonal in this way and scrutinising it a wee bit more.
As for my own style while keeping true to the origonal artist I'm still workign on that.
Thanks for the critic Marcio and again thank you for allowing me to Ink over your work.
