Description
This is a piece that was commissioned by pandalamaa of her OC The Oracle from her own original story!(Well she actually said to pick one so I did and I kept it a surpreeeees (◕△◕✿) )
You can see more of her here!
OCs from my Main StorySince I'm without a proper name for my "main" universe/story, this journal will just be called "OCs from my Main Story"...
But for commission, request and other purposes, I decided to make a journal with all the drawings that I've made, and that others have drawn, of my original characters~
Some of them have pretty bad references, or any proper art of them. Please do not be afraid to ask for better references, and I should have them ready in no time~!
And if something is unclear, I do support artistic freedom, so it doesn't have to be 100% accurate, you may change things. (As long as it isn't something drastic like hair colour or make a neon outfit. As long as it seems in character, I'm not too nitpicky about some details~)
And please do check out and favorite all of the art that others have made, they are all so incredibly gorgeous, and deserves all the recognizion they can get!

Oooh... I really like the design on this one! I think it turned out great!
I've always got a thing for characters who look regal, and the feathers definitely help with it all!
I hope the person who commissioned you is going to be happy with this piece. Because I know I love it!

You know... I've been thinking...
... gimme a moment, hear me out.
You know about the recent meme about TIDE pods? (well, people seem to be obsessed over them and started eating the darned things.) I got involved in this phenomenon because I am afraid some of my patients will actually go out and eat these things. But after looking at this, I had a new revelation: knowyourmeme.com/memes/tide-po…
It had to do with "TIDE pod-chan". I mean, there's really nothing more to her than a normal anime character with colour scheme that reminds someone of a TIDE pod. But the artist received a lot of attention. I mean... a LOT of attention. It got me thinking. If this person did commissions, their business would probably be booming because of this one character they did. I have seen this before, too. For a while people seemed to anthropomorphize pretty much anything - from phone companies to websites. (A guy called "John Lock" did a whole series of website gajinka characters and he made it on to the front page of DA... a couple of times. Even if he's no longer on DA, I still remember this guy.) All it takes is to keep your ear to the ground, find out what is trending, and beat the trend by using it as a springing board. It also means that you might be doing some work just for the practice/fun of it. But they are also your potential ticket to stardom. It's food for thought, really. It might mean hitching on the next bandwagon and jump on board early. But sometimes it might mean instant fame before you realise it. And in the game of commissions, building a fan base and building a little bit of personal fame... go a long way.
I hope this helps!

Now that you put it this way... Yes!
Well, not exactly, no. You are getting a lot of watchers but not a lot of hits. You are getting attention but not a lot of commissions. You might say I am trying to find ways to change the situation for you. This is just one of the possible ways of going at it - by staying relevant and just one step ahead of the curve on the "next big thing", so to say. I can't promise you this is going to work out. I can't even say for sure if we are good predictors of what "the next big thing" is (I would never have said "TIDE pods" will be hot in 2018, for example.) But... think of it as something potentially useful that you can think about. That's all.

I understand, ill think of what I can do. Sad thing is I'm not getting a lot of watchers
I've gained 47 in the past year and a half :/
And that is since I lost 50 after my hiatus.
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2018-02-02 03:52:47 +0000 UTC]
Well... like what I said, I have 667 (one more!) in 10 years. That's not much when you get right down to it.
The point of the watchers is not so much about quantity but quality, I find. In this case, getting your name out there and getting your watchers to get your name out there is what matters.
Viral things show up and don't last. They seem popular for a week or so and they disappear. It's going to be hard to always stay on top of things. But all you need is one to boost your visibility. And sometimes that's all it takes. So... don't give up. Keep trying. And knock on every damned door you can find.

LC-TV In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2018-02-02 04:05:50 +0000 UTC]
Well I wanted to do something fun when I reached about 400 watchers. And cause two years ago I almost hit it with 398 but after my hiatus I lost more than 50 and it just really set me back.
It's not so much about the popularity, it's more so what I can do with the watchers - cause I always want to try and help people art wise - and also I'll have a broader audience to appeal to.
It'll present me with more to do, and it'll give me more opportunities to host contests and raffles and actually have it have a good turnout you know? x

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2018-02-02 04:27:32 +0000 UTC]
Yup. I hear you!
And if you want to run raffles or contests, I will help you advertise them!
In the meantime, yeah, it'd be great to have a larger audience to appeal to. You have to work that audience, though - Even the occasional "how are you?" posts would be nice. Right now I am seeing a lot of "I'm in trouble", "I need money", etc, etc, etc. I hate to say this, but this world we are living in, people want to feel like they have some connection to the person they are following. Someone they can relate to. And it helps to put things in a slightly lighter tone sometimes. Saying "The struggle is real" is easier to relate to than saying "I am so poor, I need money." It's all about trying to be Pooh and not so much like Eeyore, even if you do have a big audience.

LC-TV In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2018-02-02 04:34:06 +0000 UTC]
That's definitely true, which I why I'm trying to combat that Eeyore-esque attitude and rather just turn it out and just occupy myself with more possible money making opportunities
Like the adopts poll I just posted - im currently working on the punk genres one, but I wanted to know what would be the highest in demand x

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2018-02-02 04:48:08 +0000 UTC]
I don't know if Punk is in demand right now. But heck... punk styles are fun anyway.
The way I tell myself - even if I was close to driving my car off a cliff in a blaze of glory - was that "It could always be worse." I know, it's not much of a battle cry to rally behind, but it has worked for me. When things are going bad, you just remember: "It could always be worse." And when you have convinced yourself of that, you get to smile and pick up a your feet a little. It's not as bad as you think it is... because it can always be worse.
Here are a few tricks I've been using for my "traditional" pieces (that you don't usually see, but that's not the point.):
1. Draw perpendicular lines around the piece and use them as location markers so your photos will come out straight.
2. Take your photos under diffuse light (natural light is the best, and it doesn't have to be very bright at all.)
3. "Fix things in post" can start with the camera phone. Depending on the kind you have, sometimes it has modifying software built into it. Play around with it so you get the best results.
4. You can fix thing in MS paint! Stuff to do includes cropping (like the location marker lines I mentioned earlier) and add highlights (little spots of white to make the whites look even whiter - because we all love shiny stuff).
I hope this helps! Remember you're not just building your portfolio, you are working! So... only give 'em your best shot.

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2018-02-03 06:42:41 +0000 UTC]
Oh, that's good to know!
Well, let's see if we can make that even better:
1. Full Colour Fullbody CM: Oracle this one is tilted. There is visible light artefact in this piece as well. That can be fixed with a diffuse light source.
2. LC-TV: ECHO (TV) Once again, tilted and the borders are not aligned. Some light artefact is seen. The whole thing can be modified to have clearer black and white separation.
3. Fullbody CM: Kiara This one and a few others have significant light artefact (We see the shadows of where the spotlight or the flash didn't it on the page. Don't you use a flash when you take these photos, by the way. It makes one spot much brighter than others!)
4. SMOL CHIBI CM - Example: Colour! The background black fabric can be cropped out to just showcase the work. The strong contrast of white paper and black bands above and below is really distracting.
... I hope that enough examples!

It just felt like you've been sitting on saying that for a while!
I mean it was a good suggestion of trying keep my drawings more uniform - but for a good minute it felt like all my art was crap cause it was leaning a little bit
But I am being more conscious of counteracting the leaning in my art

SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2018-02-05 07:35:54 +0000 UTC]
Now, now... if your work is crap, I'd have told you that (in nicer words) a lot earlier. I'd rather see you mad at me for a moment and then go on to do good for yourself than to keep you in a bubble. Like what I said, these are just examples of things that I mentioned last time on how make your work appear more professional. (And you said "but I do all of these things already!") It's not meant to make you feel bad, more about "here is how you can do what you already do better."
And remember... when you feel you are leaning, towards one way or another, it's always nice to get a second, maybe even a third opinion. The more the merrier, really. If I don't have you guys who constantly tell me what I do isn't crap, I'd have stopped producing "crap" a long, long, long time ago.

Prepared? Nah.
You know, there's always a bit of a gap between me writing one comment to another. This little gap means I can go to your gallery and actually stare at your work for a while to try to come up with stuff I want to say. It might look like I've got everything in the bag, but that's not true at all!
So I am sorry if you got that impression. That's definitely not intended!

LC-TV In reply to SinistrosePhosphate [2018-02-07 10:42:04 +0000 UTC]
It's quite alright - now im trying to focus on making pictures either centered or drawing positions in such a way where it won't matter if I'm leaning 😂😂
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
SinistrosePhosphate In reply to LC-TV [2018-02-08 09:00:27 +0000 UTC]
I still like the "landing guide" type of lines to help with taking better photos. It makes life a bit easier. (Honestly, tried, tested and true! I just crop out those lines from the photo later.) The problem with really centred pictures (like the Oracle - this one) is that if you just veer off by a little bit... it shows up. Very prominently.
At the end of the day, though, I think there is no one "right way". And what works for me probably won't work for you 100%, either. So it really is a matter of trial and error. I am just hoping that I can offer you some food for thought!
